This Piaski is often confused with the other Piaski that lies some 20 miles to the east of Lublin. This Piaski is the one which Isaac Bashevis Singer grew up in and describes in his books, the other is often referred to in history books as 'Protestant Piaski'. Both had many Jews living there, but only the Lublin one appears to have had a synagogue. Finally, if you are researching Piaski in reference to a World War 2 transit camp, it is the other one you need. The other Piaski is also covered by this website.
Piaski was just a village on the river plain of the Bystrzyca and Czerniowka rivers, not far from their confluence. Its character changed from rural to urban during the latter half of the 19th century when the railway came through and many local industries were established here.
