Turobin is a small town in the north of the Bilgoraj powiat (county), chief community of a gmina (district). There was talk in the early 1960's about making it the chief town of a new powiat, but that plan came to nothing although it received some improvements, such as a sewerage system, while the plan looked like it would go ahead.
This is a temporary page, it will be revised in the spring of 2002.

one of the cottages in the early 1960's. You can see that it is of timber
construction, and not only are there religious artifacts on the table,
but religious pictures hang on the wall in a way very typical for the region.
Unsurfaced
roads were common in villages and small towns in Eastern Poland, and still
are for the more remote settlements.

Most of the black and white pictures on this page were taken a by Jan Kulik in 1962. He had been born in the area and made a return visit from Western Poland in order to visit relatives and to take these photo's to be able to send to a relative in the United States. These relatives in the United States, the Galka family, supplied me with these pictures and can be contacted at: apcamplese@earthlink.net
For a map of the local region, click the button at the top of the page for 'Lubelskie Genealogy Help'. This will take you to the Turobin gmina (district) page, part of a lager site for the Lubelskie region. The 'Lubelskie Region' button will take you to the homepage of the 'Photo Tours of Lubelskie' sub-site.
Satelite picture of Turobin in 1998. Clearly visible are the small
strip fields, while the darker band going from top left to bottom right
is the valley floor of the Por river. Turobin is just above the centre
of the picture.
This is the same picture, but now with some of the main features added
for clarity.
