Jastków (Jastkow)
Jastkow is one of the oldest inhabited settlements in the Lubelskie region. It was founded in the early middle ages in an area that has remained under the direct influence of Lublin, the first mention in documents is in 1252. There are signs of habitation from Neolithic times (3000 BC) and the Bronze age. The nearness to Lublin, its position on the trade route from Wielkopolska and the fertility of the Loess soil led to its growth in agriculture. This is why the amount of remaining forests in the gmina has been so low, even since the middle ages, as compared to other parts of the Lubelskie region. Jastków is located on a small spur, with the Ciemięga to the north, and a small tributary of this river on the western side of the village. The surrounding land is heavily undulating, and the Ciemięga cuts quite deeply through this landscape. There are a copses between the village and the river, one bridge takes highway 17 over the river, whilst 2 small bridges to the west of that one gives access to a lane which follows the river eastwards. The wooden parish church was built in 1933.
Jastkow has a palace, which is used as the gmina office, situated in a park. There are also 2 small groups of farmsteads just east of the main part of the village.
