4L3. Poniatowa


The Gmina of Poniatowa
The gmina has a population of 16600 and covers an area of 84 sq.km. The gmina is located among the forests of the Chodel river valley. There are 14 hectares of lakes and ponds. A narrow gauge railway crosses the northwest corner of the gmina.

Dąbrowa Wronowska (Dabrowa Wronowska)
A ribbon in  a scattered ribbon development along a country road. On the south side of the road, and parallel to it, flows a stream. There are a few farmsteads on the opposite side of the stream. 4-600m to the north and south are woods. The land is relatively flat.
Fiodorówka (Fiodorowka)
A few houses and farmsteads strung out along an almost straight country road. The land is slightly undulating, open and arable. There is a small wood just to the northwest, alongside the road.
Henin
A district of the town of Poniatowa, but really a separate village. Mostly a series of houses along a straight lane, but also with a few scattered farmsteads to the west. The land is slightly undulating, open and arable, with a wood to the west of the settlement area.
Kocianów (Kocianow)
A small village on a small lane in an area of undulating arable land. There is an orchard at the south end of the village.
Kol. Kraczewice
A scattering of farmsteads on open, slightly undulating, arable land, to the south of Kowala. A couple of lanes run through the settlement area.
Kowala I
Smaller than Kowala II, and located at the eastern end of that village, on the other side of a crossroad. It is also slightly further up the valley, and has the same stream running through it. The land is slightly undulating, open and arable, and there is a wood some 800m to the northeast.

A medium sized village along a winding country road, with a stream running almost parallel to the road.  At the western end of the village, the banks of the stream become quite steep. The village itself is located in a wide, shallow valley in open, arable land. There is an orchard to the northeast of the village proper.

Kraczewice
A village divided into several parts in an open, shallow valley. The land is very slightly undulating, open and arable. A stream runs through the centre of the village and forms the divide between some of its parts. There is a palace here  from the early part of the 20th century.

Kraczewice Majątek (Kraczewice Majatek)
The northwestern part of Kraczewice, consisting of some houses on either side of a country road, on the north side of a stream. To the southwest is a wood. The land is slightly undulating, open and arable.
Kraczewice Prywatne
The northern part of the village of Kraczewice, and also including some scattered farmsteads to the north of the main part. The land is slightly undulating, open and arable.
Kraczewice Rządowe (Kraczewice Rzadowe)
The eastern end of the village of Kraczewice, to the west of the junction of the 2 roads that lead through the southern and northern parts. The land is slightly undulating, open and arable.
Leśniczówka (Lesniczowka)
The western district of the town of Poniatowa. It consists of some houses alongside a country road, plus a few farmsteads scattered over the land on the south side of the road. To the north is a wood, while to the south is a very large wood. A stream with very steep banks forms the southern edge of the settlement area.
Łubinów (Lubinow)
A small scattering of farmsteads in very slightly undulating arable land. To the north is a wood, and to the southeast is a small one.
Młynki Kraczewskie (Mlynki Kraczewskie)
The southern district of the town of Poniatowa. It is located at about a distance of about 1km from the centre of the town, and on minor highway 832. To the south, on the other side of the highway, is a very large wood. The first part of the name probably comes from the fact there was probably a mill on the stream that runs on the south side of the highway.
Niezabitów Kol. (Niezabitow Kol.)
Some houses and a few farmsteads at a junction just to the southeast of Niezabitow itself. The land is slightly undulating, open and arable.
Niezabitów (Niezabitow)
A small village at the junction of several straight country roads. The land is slightly undulating, open and arable. There is a wooden manor house here.

Obliżniak (Oblizniak)
A ribbon development village along a slightly winding country road. The land is almost flat, is open and arable. There is an orchard alongside the road, and a small wood to the north and another to the south. Further south there is a narrow gauge railway.

The northeastern district of the town of Poniatowa.
Pachanki Wronowskie
Some houses alongside minor highway 832 at the point where it crosses a stream by bridge. The land is relatively flat, open and used for arable purposes.
Plizin
A small village, in a ribbon development, but quite scattered. Mainly consists of houses, but with a couple of farmsteads on the southern side of the country road. On the southern side of the road, and parallel to it, flows a stream. 600m to the north is a large wood. The land is relatively flat.
Podbórz (Podborz)
The eastern district of the town of Poniatowa, slightly separated from the main part of the town by an arm of a wood. A stream passes the district on its northern side.
Poniatowa
This town is really no more than a large village, but it has a town street layout and is divided into districts. It is located 40km southwest of Lublin. It is a 'new town', being founded with the opening of an electrical appliances factory in 1939. The history of the factory under German occupation was unfortunate as first Russian POW's and then Jews worked and were killed here. However, after the war the town grew, receiving its town rights in 1962.
CHURCH: Parafia rzymskokatolicka Ducha Swiętego, Lubelska 5, Poniatowa, pow. Opole Lubelskie, woj. Lubelskie. It is located in the southern district of Mlynki Kraczewskie.
Poniatowa Kol.
A large area with 3 parallel, north-south lanes running through it. Strung out along these lanes are series of farmsteads. The land is relatively flat, open and arable. Off the eastern land branches a 4th parallel lane, and alongside this one is an orchard.
Poniatowa (2nd in gmina)
Separate from the main part of the town of Poniatowa, and a village in its own right. It consists of mainly houses, with a few farmsteads, on either side of a country road, some 300m north of a minor highway. Parallel to the road, and on the south side of it, flows a stream. The land rises to the southeast, but is relatively flat, open and arable.
Poniatowa Wieś (Poniatowa Wies)
A small village, surrounded except on the southern side with woods.
Spławy (Splawy)
A very small village in a ribbon development along a lane. The land is slightly undulating, open and arable. 800m to the north is a wood.
Sporniak
A district of the town of Poniatowa on the northwestern side.
Stoczki
A few houses along a country lane, to the east of the 2nd Poniatowa. The land is relatively flat, rising to the south, open and arable.
Szczuczki Kol.
Some houses and farmsteads along a straight country road. The land is slightly undulating, open and arable, with a small wood to the west, and a larger one to the south/southeast.
Zofianka
A ribbon development small village on a lane in slightly undulating, open arable land. To the west are a couple of small woods, whilst at the eastern end of the village is a narrow gauge railway and an orchard.
