4P2. Kłoczew (Kloczew)

The Gmina of Kłoczew (Kloczew)
The gmina has a population of 8200 and covers an area of 143 sq.km. It lies on the Zelachow Upland, with agriculture consisting mainly of corn, potatoes, strawberries and blackcurrants, and pig breeding. The earliest signs of  settlements date from the 3rd century, a cemetary of the period was discovered at a local gravel pit near the Okrzejka river. The parish dates from 1559 when Kloczew village belonged to the Kloczewski Brothers.

There is a strong tradition of folk weaving, with rugs, skirts and cloth still being made.

There is a manor house here from the second half of the 18th century, and owned by the Cieciszowski family. It is a low, one storey building with rooms in the roof space, and a four column portico, all built in bricj and stone.
There is a branch of the State fish farms here, and several excellent fish ponds.

A parish church was established in 1559, with the wooden church being replaced by a plastered brick one in 1643/1793.
CHURCH: Parafia rzymskokatolicka, Kłoczew, pow. Ryki, woj. Lubelskie. A Baroque Roman Catholic church from the 17th/18th century. The church has valuable equipment and two separate bell towers. It has a semicircular nave, the outside of which you see as you approach the church. The church perimeter wall has an 18th century gate.
CHAPEL: St. Barbara. Outside the church, with a 1km long underground passage. 18th century, with a Rococo interior.

This was a royal property as early as the 14th century. There is a manor house here with a brick barn. The barn has a 4 column arcade, and is probably from the 19th century. There was an airfield here in 1944.
