4Q1. 安idnik (Swidnik)
The Gmina of SwidnikThis is a very small gmina, it mainly consists of the town of Swidnik and some area of farm and recreation land plus an airfield for the helicopter company there. The land is quite flat, although rising a little as you go towards Lublin. It has a population of 41000 people and is located 10km from Lublin. The first mention of the name Swidnik comes from 1392, it was known as de Swidniki in 1417 and Swydnyk in 1479. The name comes from the name of a wetland meadow flower which grows in the region. In the 19th century, a recreational centre was created near the new railway station. Before WW2 an airfield was built here and in 1951 a transport factory opened. There are two railway stations in Swidnik, neither of them very pleasant. There is a former station some distance from the main station which is located on the edge of Swidnik, but convenient for that part which exisited before it became a 'new town' - this station building is handsome in red brick.

Adampol
Now a district of Swidnik, many wooden buildings remain from the pre-war
village.
Annopol
Now a district of Swidnik, and was a popular resort at the end of the
19th century.
Kol. Kr瘼iec (Kol. Krepiec)
Some houses along the north side of highway 86, but mainly several
square kilometers of arable land on the north side of the highway with
many scattered farmsteads on a grid of lanes, covering several square kilometers
and even extending into the gmina of Melgiew. The land is almost flat and
is open with few trees.
安idnik (Swidnik) 
Swidnik as a town was created after the war as a new town to serve
the aircraft works there, obtaining its city rights in 1954. It was a green-field
site and took its name from some neighbouring villages (Swidnik duzy, Swidnik
Maly, Swidniczek, all in Lublin powiat), but does incorporate the villages
of Annopol and Adampol. During the fifties and sixties, the aircraft company
(Originally known as WSK, but now PZL-安idnik S.A.) also produced motorcycles.
It moved into helocopters, one of which was used in a Bond film, but is
well known in Poland as the factory which held the first strike in Poland
in 1980 - which led to the creation of the Solidarity union in Gdansk -
the rest is history. A WSK helicopter is mounted by the side of the roundabout
on the main road into the town.
Swidnik is mainly populated by people from villages who came seeking
work, new flats and often escaping overcrowded homes. Currently, the town
has a population of about 41 000, and it is located only 11km eastof Lublin.
Their are no hills and the surrounding land is quite flat. There is a large
wood on the west side of the town.

town.
