Surnames: Diaz, Morales, Velez

Am searching for my family ties. My siblings and I are very interested in meeting any aunts, uncles and cousins and maybe learn a little bit about our mother.

My mother Mary Morales (maybe Maria ) was born in Añasco, PR on Feb 10, 1911 to Jose and Maria or Cruca Morales ( maiden name - Diaz ). Cruca may be a nickname, I'm not sure. In any event my name is Cruzita so maybe I was named after her. Who knows?

My mother died leaving 6 young children behind ranging in ages from 1 mo to 12 yrs. We never got to know her and of course never met any one from her family.

I understand she had a brother and maybe a sister. The orphanage documents show there was an aunt, Marian Velez and an Uncle Jose but its not clear whether they were my mothers aunt and uncle or ours.

If any one is familiar with this family I would be so grateful for any information.

Thanks..........

Cruzita Kenna

Don'y know anthing about your family, however, I suggest you look up the 1920 U.S. Census records for Anasco, Puerto Rico and look for your mother and maternal grandparents there.

Good luck.

While I don't have your names in my records I believe that if your Pedro Maldonado was from Utuado then we probably are distant cousins as most, if not all, the Utuado MALDONADOs are descended from the same line. I will keep your names on file and keep them in mind as I continue my research. I'll let you know if I come across a link. At this time I'm in Utuado circa 1800-1825 and working in both directions.

Take care and good luck!

Surnames: Diaz, Garcia, Hernandez, Levins, Moure, Ortiz, Rivera, Rodriguez, Santos

Here are eight generations of my Morales ancestors from Naranjito/Toa Alta, PR. The information comes from my grandmother and from the parrish records of Toa Alta. It may be a little confusing because the Morales' were fond of marrying their cousins a lot, but I think I've arranged it so it makes sense.

1. Eusebio Morales=Maria de la Rosa. Eusebio died 1802. Their children included Justo born c.1755 and Maria del Rosario b. 1782 born the same year as Justo's daughter.

2. Justo Morales de la Rosa=Maria Santiago married c. 1775. Their children were Claudio, b. 1776, Hisidora b. 1782 and Braulio, b. March 26, 1786.

3A. Claudio Morales=Maria de Gracia Rodriguez [daughter of Manuel Rodriguez and Manuela de la Rivera Ortiz who was the daughter of Cecilia Ortiz and Diego de la Rivera born c. 1730 ]. Their children included Cornelio, Buenaventura and Isabel.

3B. Braulio Morales=Ursula Santos. Their children included Maria Dolores and Justo Morales Santos.

4. Descendants of Claudio

A. Cornelio Morales Rodriguez=Marcelina Morales (a cousin) Their daughter was Marcelina Morales Morales.

B. Buenaventura Morales Rodriguez=Maria Dolores Morales Santos (Braulio's daughter) Their son was Raimundo Morales Morales.

C. Isabel Morales Rodriguez=Jose Maria Hernandez. Their daughter was Carmen Hernandez Morales

Descendants of Braulio:

D. Maria Dolores Morales Santos=Buenaventura Morales Rodriguez (4B above).

E. Justo Morales Santos=Manuela Rivera. Their children included Fermin Morales Rivera.

5A. Marcelina Morales Morales[daughter of4A] =Raimundo Morales Morales [son of 4B]. In other words they were first cousins.  Their daughter was Rosario Morales Morales.

5B. Carmen Hernandez [daughter of 4C]=Fermin Morales Rivera [son of 4E] First cousins again.  Their son was Ramon Morales Morales.

6. Ramon Morales Morales[5B]=Rosario Morales Morales [5A] b. Oct 1, 1879. All four of their parents were descendants of Claudio and Braulio Morales [3A & 3B]. She was 14 when they married and they had 13 children, 11 boys and 2 girls one of whom died young. The 6th son, Manuel de Jesus Morales Morales was my grandfather, b. Dec 7, 1905.

7. Manuel de Jesus Morales Morales=Aurora Moure Diaz b. June 1, 1910. Their daughter was Rosario Morales b. Aug 23, 1930.

8. Rosario Morales=Richard Levins, born June 1,1930. They married June 10, 1950. Their children are Aurora Levins Morales (1954) , Ricardo Levins Morales (1956) and Alejandro Levins Morales (1965).

Until my mother's birth in 1930, every Morales and most of the few non-Morales people they married were born in Toa Alta (prior to 1824) and then Naranjito which was formed out of the southern barrios of the former town. Braulio Morales was the founder of Naranjito, in other words, the person whose name was on the petition to the Spanish government as "capitan poblador".

If anyone is related to or knows about any of these people, please e-mail me directly to
"judorican@aol.com".

Surnames: Diaz, Garcia, Hernandez, Levins, Moure, Ortiz, Rivera, Rodriguez, Santos

Here is my Rivera ancestry from Naranjito/Toa Alta. One Rivera ancestor is from a different branch and I have no info on her.   They are supposedly originally from Barranquitas or related to the Barranquitas family of Riveras but I haven't found the link. My great-great-grandfather on another side was an accountant for the Muñoz Rivera family around the turn of the century.

Rivera Ancestry (Connected to Morales, Rodriguez, Ortiz, Hernandez)

1. Diego de la Rivera=Cecilia Ortiz born c. 1730

2. Manuela de la Rivera Ortiz=Manuel Rodriguez

3. Maria de Gracia Rodriguez=Claudio Morales

4A. Cornelio Morales=Marcelina Morales.( cousin) Their daughter was Marcelina Morales Morales.

4B. Buenaventura Morales=Maria Dolores Morales Santos (1st cousin-daughter of Cluadio's brother Braulio). Their son was Raimundo Morales Morales.

4C. Isabel Morales=Jose Maria Hernandez. Their daughter was Carmen Hernandez Morales

5A. Marcelina Morales Morales =Raimundo Morales Morales. Their daughter was Rosario Morales Morales.

5B. Carmen Hernandez=Fermin Morales Rivera [grandson of Braulio Morales in 4B and 1st cousin of Raimundo and Marcelina in 5A and son of a Manuela Rivera]. Their son was Ramon Morales Morales.

6. Ramon Morales Morales=Rosario Morales Morales b. Oct 1, 1879.

Their daughter was Rosario Morales.

8. Rosario Morales=Richard Levins, both born in 1930.   Their children are Aurora Levins Morales, Ricardo Levins Morales and Alejandro Levins Morales.   Up until generation 8, everyone was born in Naranjito, PR or, before 1824, in the part of Toa Alta that became Naranjito.   Braulio Morales was the founder of Naranjito.   Manuela de la Rivera Ortiz donated the land that became the town plaza.

If you find a link to your own family or have info to share, please e-mail me directly at
"judorican@aol.com".

Thanks,

Aurora Levins Morales

Surnames: Caban, Colon, Flores, Gonzalez

I am the grand daughter of Enrique (Henry) Caban who resided in the Bronx, NY until his death.   He left a widow, Aura Rodriguez, and several children. Henry also has at least one surviving sibling in Puerto Rico. Henry also had a son, Raymond, outside of his marriage to Aura.

In 1979 a inhertitance claim was filed in Bayamon, Puerto Rico regarding property at Cataño, Puerto Rico.   Some of the names listed on the documents are Maria Luisa Caban (Colon), Carmen Lydia Caban (Colon), Miguel Angel Caban (Flores) and Lydia Caban (Gonzalez).

I would like to get in contact with any of these relatives for my genealogy research.

Thank you!
