Check spelling. Make sure your search terms are spelled correctly.
Keep it simple. Because of the nature of the Concession Deeds document, the names and placenames are often spelled in a variety of ways and are subject to transcription errors. Avoid using multiple words in the search string and use wildcard characters.
Use appropriate capitalization. Capitalized words will look specifically for words with the same capitalized letters whereas lower case words will match any case, upper or lower.
It is not necessary to use accented characters in french words. For example: Chateauguay will return results with both Chateauguay and Châteauguay.
Use quotation marks to find words which must appear adjacent to each other.
Use plus (+) or minus (-). Use a plus sign when your search term or phrase must appear in the search results. Use a minus sign to indicate undesirable term(s). Note: leave no space between the + or - and the term, for example, +word, not + word.
Use wildcards. The * character is used as the wildcard character and will match any character. For example, wh* will find any word starting with wh and *he* will find any word that contains he within its string.
