Brown Family Burying Ground |

The Brown Family Burying Ground was located on the west bank of the Chateauguay River, 1.5mi (2.4km) ENE of the Town of Huntingdon. (45.095N/74.145W) At the time the photographs were taken, the cemetery was inside a grove of hawthorn trees with 3 inch thorns to help protect it.. The property had been in the Brown family name since it was first settled in the early 1800s but was sold in 2004. In the fall of 2004, the grove was cleared and the current location of the grave stones is presently unknown.
Before the clearance, there were 3 stones visible in the burying ground. They represented 3 generations of the Brown Family. Two of the stones were broken but no inscription info had been lost. In the fall of 2004, the stones were photographed in full and expanded scale and then re-photographed using chalk to enhance the contrast of the engraving. It is not known if there are other stones that have sunk out of sight or whether there are other burials in this cemetery not mentioned on the stones. The available church records do not show any other Brown family members dying during the time frame covered by these stones and do not indicate the place of burial.
