Franklin
Centre Cemetery, called Russelltown Burying Ground in church
records and Cantwell Cemetery by some local residents, is located a short
distance to the east of Franklin Centre on Route 202 where it is found at the intersection of
Cantwell Road. The cemetery is Protestant and served, historically,
Methodist and Congregationalist families living in the area. The cemetery is
well cared for and it appears that headstones have been replaced where tine and
erosion has made this necessary. There are, of course, a few headstones for
which inscriptions can no longer be transcribed and some plots for which the
headstones have most likely disappeared.
Except for a few additional inscriptions as the result of later interments, this cemetery list is almost identical to the one prepared by Gerry Rogers in the last 1970's. There are a few minor corrections, including the incorrect listing for Nelson Manning who headstone is located a short distance away in Christ Church Cemetery.
