John Manning Family Cemetery - Franklin |
Email:

An old private
burial ground, the John Manning Family Cemetery
is located just southwest of the Route
202 and Clinton Sideroad junction in the Stevenson apple orchard. The farm once
belonged to the Stacey family and members of the family can be found in this
cemetery..
The Mannings interred in this cemetery were descended from the Mannings who had earlier settled in the Hemmingford area. The John Manning listed here was active in local development and politics in the 1830's and was often referred to as 'Squire Manning'. This Manning family is also the one from which the hamlet, 'Manningville', obtained its name. Meanwhile, research by several different historians has not been able to establish a common ancestry for this Manning family and the Manning family that settled approximately three miles to east and the family for which the Old Manning Burial Ground obtained its name.
