The Old Manning Burial Ground, also known and the Manning Family Cemetery,  is located on the north side of Route 202 approximately one mile east of Franklin Centre.
The cemetery probably takes its name from the fact that the cemetery is located on the lot where John Manning (1784-1847) settled when he first arrived after living in Alburgh, Vermont and Montreal. Research by several different historians has not been able to establish a common ancestry for this Manning family and the John Manning family that settled approximately three miles to the west -- and for which another cemetery is named..

While the persons buried in this cemetery settled on nearby lots, they are not necessarily related. It is probable that a Manning family member was the first to buried here and that the cemetery was gradually expanded to include members of neighboring family.  The graveyard has suffered in the past from being overgrown with shrubs and trees. The brush was cleared in 1978 and the area generally maintained since then.
