St.
Paul's Anglican Cemetery, |
Email:
Ken Steffenson |
This cemetery list was compiled in June of 2004 by Carolyn Canary and Mary
Ellen Konopka, both descendents of John Boyd of Boyd Settlement , who came to
Huntingdon in 1832 with his young family and his brother, William, from County
Down, Ireland. The cemetery was photographed by Ken Steffenson in May 2007 and
the cemetery list updated to include photographs and changes between June 2004
and May 2007.
St Paul's was built and open for services in 1848, though no date or written
evidence of the consecration of the church has surfaced, the date is inscribed
above the entrance door. The Reverend Wm. Morris was pastor at the time. Due to
dwindling numbers of subscribing members to the church, it was closed on March
27, 1969. The remaining families mostly went on to St. John's in Huntingdon.
The information that was gathered in 2004 was done with as much accuracy as
possible, owing to the condition of some of the stones. Some were broken, parts
missing, badly damaged by natural causes or whatever lack of attention allows.
Some stones are in very good condition. We tried to record the information as it
was discernable on each existing stone, including name, age, relationships, and
nativity where possible. When in doubt, we took our best guess but indicated so
with "?' or "…" to indicate the fact that the information may be incorrect or
just unreadable.
The ultimate result is a list as complete as possible at this time. We compared
our collected information to that of Gerry Rogers, done in 1978, and have
indicated with "§", names which do not
appear on the Rogers' list. Also included at the end, are a few names which we
did not find but were on the Rogers' list.
We hope that this effort will help researchers looking for family in the
Hinchinbrooke area of Huntingdon County, Que.
