12-16-1942 James Robert Smellie, beloved husband of Mrs. James S. Webster, died at his home at 45 Clinton Street, Gouverneur New York. In his 80th year. He was born March 05, 1863, at Clyde's Corners, Québec. He was the son of James Smellie and Janet Sterrat. They moved to Fort Covington in 1884, later to Gouverneur New York in 1888, he was married on March 25, 1885, to Miss Ella S. Wright, of Westville Center, Franklin County New York. She passed away May 21, 1933. Mr. Smellie married again in 1936, his second wife being Mrs. James S. Webster of Gouverneur. Surviving as his wife, also one son, Leyland, of Grafton ND, two daughters, Eva, Mrs. Robert Kirschner, Ruth, Mrs. Walter Woodbridge, both of Detroit MI, two brothers, David of Dundee, and John of Dewittville Québec, one sister, Martha, Mrs. Chester Barrington of Huntingdon Québec. Funeral service held from his late residence on December 18, by the Rev. Joseph A. Schofield, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Interred at Detroit MI.

01-04-1943 Eliza Cairns, widow of the late Dr. Peter McLaren,died in Ormstown Que, in her 95th year. Born in Ormstown in 1848. She was daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Cairns, Dr. MacLaren predeceased her in 1920. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. D.McL Munro of Montreal, Mrs. J. C. Phelps of Lexington MA, and Mrs. H. C. McLaren of Nassau. Five son, Dr. W. S. McLaren of Ormstown Quebec, D. D. McLaren of Greenfield MA, H. G. McLaren of Ormstown Quebec, A. Fraser McLaren, of Colorado Springs CO, and Ralph G. McLaren of Buffalo New York, 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, a daughter, Mrs. Clinton's Smith, of Denver CO, predeceased her mother some years ago. Interred at Ormstown Quebec.

12-28-1942 Mary Kerr, beloved wife of the late T. C. Baskin, died at St Chrysostome Québec, in her 87th year. She was born at Riverfield Québec, April 22nd, 1856, her parents coming from Scotland. Left to mourn are seven daughters and four son's, Mrs. Robert McKee, Mrs. H. E. Wilson, Mrs. K. Boyd, Mrs. Charles Hadley, Mrs. Roy Ellerton, Mrs. Donald Douglas, Mrs. Torrence Brisbin, T. W. Baskin of Calgary AB, George, Bertal, and Edward of Havelock Québec. Also a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. D. J. Robertson, of Nelson BC. Burial to place in Hemmingford Québec, beside her husband, who predeceased her in October, 1935. Miss M. McDowell, R.N., lovingly and faithfully cared for the late Mrs. Baskin during all her illness.

Funeral services was held on Monday from St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Huntingdon Québec, where her minister, the Rev. J. B. McLean, D. D. officiated. Interment was made in the family plot in the Georgetown Cemetery.

01-16-1943 Isabella McNaughton, of Hinchinbrooke, daughter of the late Angus McNaughton and Isabella Brown, both natives of Scotland, died at Dewittville Québec, in her 82nd year. There were 19 children born to them, Peter who died in infancy, the five daughters and three sons were, Catherine, married to John A. McDiarmid of Avonmore ON, Agnes, married to Donald McEwen, of Freeland Park Indiana, John, of Eureka NV, Malcolm of Ormstown, Janet, unmarried, who lived and died at the old home, Angus of Boyd Settlement, Daniel, who lived and died at the old home, and the youngest and last to die, Isabella, who lived and died at the old home. Funeral service was held at the old home on Tuesday afternoon, the 19th, service was conducted by her minister, Rev. J. B. McLean, D. D. of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Huntingdon Québec, assisted by the Rev. Thomas Knowles of the Huntingdon United Church. Burial was in the family plot in the Huntingdon Protestant Cemetery.

01-14-1943 Alexander Pringle Rember, of Ormstown Quebec, beloved husband of Jane Wilson Gilbert, died at the Montreal General Hospital. He was born at Tatehurst Québec, on July 30, 1867, son of the late William Rember and his wife Elizabeth Pringle. He was first united in marriage to the Elizabeth H. Macintosh in 1891, to this union two children were born, John Ward and Elizabeth McIntosh, two years after her death he married Laura Sophia St. Louis and to this union two children were born, Elsie Sophia and David Adrian, nine years after her demonize, he was united in marriage on December 29, 1915 to Jane Wilson Gilbert, to this union five daughters were born, Jane Alexa, Ruby Gilberta, Margaret Ruth, Marion Helena, and Janet Roberta. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 17, from his late residence, on Depot Street, service being conducted by the Rev. W. Harold Brown, assisted by the Rev. C. Leslie Taylor, and the Rev. F. Pollock. Interred in the United Cemetery. He leaves his wife, two sons, 6 daughters and one daughter-in-law, two sisters, Ellen, Mrs. W. Brehmer, and Alice, Mrs. E. MacTavish, also a number sisters and brother-in-law's.

01-06-1943 Israel Rennie, beloved husband of Levine Laplante, died at his home at Covey Hill Québec, in his 73rd year. He is survived by his widow, and two daughters, Edith, Mrs. William Lickford of Cowansville, and Louva, Mrs. Raymond Gaddis of Ormstown, two sons, Ernest of Ormstown and Oakland at home, 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one sister, Mrs. Alzina Stewart. Funeral services were held on Saturday at the Union Presbyterian Church, service conducted by the Rev. Mr. J. Gordon Troyer, pastor. Interred in the Church Cemetery, where Mr. Rennie's first wife, who died over 30 years ago, and two daughters are buried. His eldest daughter, Mrs. Lickford, of Cowansville and his son Ernest and his wife from Ormstown were present at the funeral. Mr. Rennie was born and farmed all his life at Covey Hill.

(Not dated) Muriel E. Briscoe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alpha Briscoe, died suddenly at her home. Funeral services were held from the family home, 115 School Street, Groveland. Service conducted by the Rev. James C. Perkins. Interim pastor of the Groveland Congregational Church. Burial was in the Riverfield Cemetery in Groveland.

She leaves to mourn, one son, Samuel, at home and two brothers, Thomas, and Donald of Huntingdon, and three sisters, Mrs. Pepper of Van Cleek Hill, ON, Mrs. Shearer and Mrs. Anderson, both of Huntingdon, also a number of nephews and nieces. Funeral service at St. Andrews Church in Huntingdon Québec at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 1943.

01-24-1943 J. Clarke Boyd, died at Huntingdon Québec, age 73 years. Funeral from the Huntingdon United Church. Three sons were born to this family, the late Huntley Boyd, Gordon Boyd of Beloeil Québec, and William of home. He is also survived by his brothers Malcolm of California and Alex of Saskatoon, a sister, Mrs. Mary Todd of Beauharnois, and two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Gordon Boyd and Mrs. Lee Boyd and granddaughter Linda, grandson's Peter and Julius. Funeral service held from the United Church, with the Rev. Thomas Knowles officiating.

01-22-1943 Albert Stuart Cleeland, of Mooers Forks New York, died at the Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh New York, age 70 years. He was born on a farm here 70 years ago, second son of the late Thomas Clelland and his wife, Ellen Barr. He married Helena Robson and resided on a farm near his old home for a number of years, later purchasing a second farm on the American side of the border, where they lived until his wife died 15 years ago, when he sold the farm and since boarded with an old neighbor, Mrs. George Walker. He leaves two brothers, T.E. Clelland, and W. J. Clelland, and an adopted sister, Miss. Annie Wiggins. Funeral service was held on Sunday afternoon from his brothers, Mr. Emmett Clelland residence. Service was held in Knox Church, service conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ross.

01-20-1943 Elizabeth Brown, daughter of the late Robert Allen, of Ormstown and widow of the late C. L. Davis, and sister of Mrs. W. E. Rennie of Huntingdon Québec, died at Hollywood CA of pneumonia, age 83 years.

01-18-1943 Hattie Robidoux, beloved wife of the late Alex Deschamp, died at St Anicet Québec, age 69 years.

01-26-1943 Robert McCracken, beloved husband of the late Emma Boyd, died at Huntingdon Québec, in his 86th year. He was born at Boyd's Settlement, Hinchinbrooke Québec, on March 14, 1857. The late Mr. McCracken spent 24 years at Newburgh New York, where he was a highly respected employee of the Erie Railroad Company. In 1880, he was married to Miss Emma Boyd, of Boyd's Settlement who predeceased him ten years ago. To this union nine children were born, of which eight survive. He was a veteran of the Fenian Raid. Left to mourn, three sons, John A. of Huntingdon, Robert of Clinton New York, and Elmer of Toronto ON, one son, William, predeceased his father, five daughters, Laura, Mrs. Fred Stone, of Newburgh New York, Etta, Mrs.V. Lewis of Montreal, Mary, Mrs. A. A. Chesterfield, of Rednesville ON, Myrtle, Mrs. A. B. Fraser of St. Lambert, and Mrs. Ruth Magner, of Watertown NY.

She was the eldest daughter of the late William Ross and Isabella Bryson of Dewittville Québec. She is survived by two sons, George and Ross, of Huntingdon, and three daughters, Beatrice of Ottawa, Mary at home, and Marion Robena, Mrs. J. W. Abraham of Montreal, also five grandchildren, a brother, Mr. Andrew Ross of Ormstown, and a sister, Mrs. J. I. Roy of Montreal. Funeral services held Monday afternoon from her late residence to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, service conducted by her pastor, the Rev. J. B. McLean.

Fergerson of Montreal, and Mrs. S.H. Olmstead, of Plymouth NH, two brothers, Alex MacGregor of Howick Québec, and former Group Captain James MacGregor of England. Two sisters, Mrs.Alex Edson of St. Andrews East, and Mrs. Jong Orr of Waveland MA. Funeral services were held in Montreal Québec, and burial was in the Howick Cemetery.

03-23-1943 Hugh Reginald Graham, son of the late Hugh Graham, of Huntingdon Québec, died at his late residents in Huntingdon Québec, age 73 years. Mr. Graham lived on a farm situated on the River Road, about one-half mile east of Huntingdon, which was first settled by his father, Billy Hugh Graham, who came to Canada from Edinborough Scotland, that farm has been operated by the Graham family for over one hundred years. An Uncle, father of the late Lord Athelstan, also settled in Huntingdon County. Those left to mourn, his wife, the former Miss Charlotte Willes, one brother, Arthur P. Graham of Huntingdon, three sisters, Mrs. Louisa Graham of Huntingdon, Mrs. Arthur Hill of New Westminster BC, and Mrs. Albert Cook of Hamilton ON. 06-02-1943 E.A. McCoy, a native of Hinchinbrooke Township, died at Chateauguay New York, age 71 years. He was born at Herdman Corners Québec, March 29, 1872, one of a family of eight children, he was son of David McCoy and his wife, Sarah Jane McClatchie, who was a descendant of the Yale family. He was married on June 27, 1900, to Caroline Louise Hoit, of Chateaugay. To them, one son was born, Herbert Hoit McCoy. He is survived by his widow and one son, Herbert Hoit McCoy Sr., and one grandson, Herbert Hoit McCoy Jr., two sisters, Mrs. Creighton Cassidy of Montreal, and Mrs. William Ball of Vancouver BC, one brother, Herbert McCoy, of Aneroid Saskatchewan also survives.

He was born in Huntingdon Québec, 80 years ago last February 02, son of the late Daniel Black, and came to Williamstown Ontario 35 years ago. He is survived by his wife, the former Sarah Ann Clark, one daughter, Ethel, Mrs. Alex Clark of Maxville, five grandchildren, Harold Clark, Leslie Gordon, Earl and Marion at home. Funeral services were held from his home to St. Andrew's United Church, service conducted by the Rev. G. W. Erwine, Interred in the Church Cemetery.

She was daughter of Samuel Dalzeel and Jane Graham, born October 16th, 1858. She was united in marriage to Arthur Anderson, in 1896. Mr. Anderson passed away in 1931. She is survived by two sisters, Sara, Mrs. James H. Cowan, Emma, Mrs. Fred Sweet, of Brooklet Québec, besides a number and nieces and nephews. The funeral services were held at the Gore United Church, service conducted by the Rev. T. F. Duncan. Burial was made in the family plot at the Gore Cemetery.

He lived in Glen Falls at one time. He was a Delaware and Hudson railroad engineer. Besides his wife, Mrs. Maude Barnes Johnston, he leaves a son, Hilton Loughridge of Buffalo NY, three nieces, Virginia, Marjorie and Carolyn Barnes of this city, two nephews of Oneonta, one niece of Hillsdale, four nephews and one niece of Barrie ON Canada. Two nieces in Winnipeg, one great-nephew and three great nieces, one sister, Mrs. Wilson Rowat in Canada, and three brothers, Thomas Johnston of Barrie ON Canada, James and Samuel Johnson of Winnipeg Canada. His parents were the late William Johnston who was born in Northern Ireland, and Ann McCracken Johnson who was a native of Canada. Burial was in Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

10-26-1943 Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Purse, 465 Cumberland Avenue, Winnipeg MB, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on October 26, a large number of their friends called on them at their home and a reception was held in Knox United Church, in the evening, where Mr. Purse has been a member of the session since 1928. Mr. and Mrs. Purse were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Henderson, of Brooklet Québec, on October 26, 1893, farming on the Gore until 1911, when they moved to Saskatchewan, going to Winnipeg, in 1924. Two daughters, Mrs. Busse and Mrs. Barber, both from Saskatchewan, and two sons, George and Fred, of Winnipeg, were present. There are 13 grandchildren, five grandsons are now on active service.

12-15-1943 Alexander Lindsay, beloved husband of Margaret Cameron, died suddenly at Ormstown Québec, age 75 years. He leaves to mourn, his wife, two daughters, Miss Irene Lindsay, Mrs. Norman McClanahan, and one son, Alexander Lindsay, also a number of grandchildren and other relatives. Funeral services were held from the residence of his son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Norman McClanahan, then to the Presbyterian Church, were service was conducted by the Rev. C. L. Taylor. Interred in the Union Cemetery.

12-24-1943 James S. Murphy, formerly of Huntingdon Québec, and brother of the late C. J. Murphy, died at El Sequndo California, age 74 years.

12-23-1943 Joseph Nora, beloved husband of Aldea Trudeau, died at the Hotel-Dieu Hospital in Montreal Québec, age 47 years. He was the son of Joseph Nora and his wife Elizabeth Hart of St. Agnes, he leaves to mourn, his wife, one daughter, Florence, Mrs. Stanley Nora, of Dundee, by a former marriage, four brothers, Fred, of Dundee, Paul of Messina NY, Osias, of Fort Covington, and Rosario in Lachute Québec, also two sisters, Elizabeth, Mrs. Joe Hart, of Huntingdon and Helen, Mrs. Henry Legault of St Anicet. Funeral services were held Monday morning, from the residents of his brother, Fred, to St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church. Interment was in St. Agnes Church Cemetery.

12-17-1943 Amelia Vallincourt, widow of the late Treffle Prevost, died at the home of her son, Donald Douglas, in Rockburn Québec, in her 80th year. She is survived by five sons and three daughters, children by a former marriage, Ira Douglas of Brooklet, Bentley of Ormstown, Donald Arden and Walter of Rockburn, Mrs. Ethel Hall of Saranac Lake NY, Mrs.Sophronia Picard of Essex VT, and Mrs. Gertrude Vallincourt of Huntingdon, also a number of grandchildren. Funeral service was held at the Rockburn Church, service conducted by Dr. McLean. Interred in Hillside Cemetery.

12-20-1943 Nickey Shepherd, dearly beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Shepard, of Greenfield Park Québec, died accidentally at St. Lambert Québec, age 14 years.

12-20-1943 Lucy M. Taylor, eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Taylor, died at the home of her brother, A H. Taylor, in Herdman Québec, after a lingering illness, age 75 years.

12-16-1943 Walter Turner of Riverfield Québec, died at his home, left to mourn, his wife, and there only son, Walter, now serving overseas. Funeral service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Payne, and Interment was in Riverfield Cemetery.

12-24-1943 Mary Eliza McCartney, beloved wife of the late Charles Turner, died at the home of her niece, on Christmas eve, Mrs. J. R. Campbell, where she lived for the past year and a half in Ormstown Québec, age 84 years. She was daughter of the late John and Ann McCartney of Georgetown Québec. Funeral service was held from the house to the Presbyterian Church, service conducted by the Rev. Mr. Bingham of the Georgetown Church. Interment took place in the family plot at Georgetown.
