12-17-1943 Sgt. Ward William James Allen, RCAF, of Aubrey Québec, was killed on active service, age 25 years. Interred in Cambridge England on December 23rd. A memorial service in the Howick United Church, at 230 p.m., Sunday, January 09, 1944. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Allen of Aubrey Québec, he is survived by his parents, a sister Ruby, and a brother Lloyd.

01-03-1944 A. H. Besner, (hardware storekeeper), beloved husband of Alberta St. Denis, died at Valleyfield Québec, age 69 years. Funeral Friday, January 7th, from his late residents, 329 Victoria Street in Valleyfield, to the Cathedral.

01-02-1944 Catherine Donnelly, wife of the late Bernard Cunningham, died at Malone New York, in her 75th year. She was born May 03, 1869, daughter of Mr.and Mrs. Mary Ann and Edward Lyons Donnelly of Glenelm Québec. She had resided most of her life in Westville New York, and came to Malone to reside with her daughter two years ago. She was united in marriage 45 years ago to Bernard Cunningham in Huntingdon Québec, the couple moved to Westville at that time. Six children were born to this union, five of whom survive, one daughter, Mary, died 12 years ago Christmas eve. Mr. Cunningham died August 07, 1932. Surviving besides Miss Beatrice Cunningham, are four other children, Raymond of Springfield MA, Private Leo, of Reno NV, Private Edward, stationed somewhere in England, and Mrs. Robert Welch of Hazardville Connecticut, Reddick and William of Brighton MA, and one sister, Mrs. Leyland Thornton of Glenelm Québec.

12-28-1943 Clarence Johnson, beloved husband of Sarah Savior, died suddenly at Franklin Center Québec, in his 58th year. Interment in Cantwell Cemetery.

12-23-1943 Duncan J. McEwen, husband of the late Christina W. Gardner, died at the home of Mr. Charles Tate in St Louis de Gonzague Québec, in his 85th year. Funeral services were held in the Georgetown Church, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Bingham.

She leaves to mourn, three sisters, Mrs. William McGerrigle of Ormstown Concession, Mrs. George Sangster, of Texas, and Mrs. Neil Sangster, of Ormstown. Also a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral was held from St. Paul United Church, service conducted by the Rev. C. L. Taylor.

01-07-1944 William Marshall, beloved husband of Mary Jane Elliott, died at Ormstown Quebec, age 75 years. He was born at Riverfield Quebec, 75 years ago, living there till he was 18 years of age, moving to a farm East of Howick. In 1899, he was united in married with Mary Jane Elliott, and lived on this farm until 1910, when he moved to Ormstown. He is survived by his wife and three sons, Russell on the farm, William, principal at Knowlton school, and Sergeant Alan of the RCAF, one brother, David, and two grandchildren. Service was held in the Presbyterian Church, service conducted by the Rev. Bingham of Georgetown. Burial in Georgetown Cemetery.

12-24-1943 Mary Eliza McCartney, beloved wife of the late Charles Turner, died at Ormstown Quebec, age 84 years.

12-29-1943 Levinia E. Donnelly, beloved wife of Dr. W. C. Wells, and youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Donnelly of Huntingdon Quebec, died at Burlington VT, in her 79th year.

01-15-1944 To Sergeant Russell and Mrs. Hay, (Marion Partner), at the Barrie Memorial Hospital in Ormstown Quebec, a son, (Kenneth George).

01-12-1944 Jemima E. Reid, beloved wife of the late R. M. Cairns, died at Ormstown Quebec. She was born on December 06, 1851. In 1875, she married the late Robert M. Cairns and lived on the farm lately vacated by Alfred Greig where his son now lives, in 1914, Mr. and Mrs. Cairns moved to Saskatoon and resided there 20 years when she returned to Ormstown to live with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. J. Hunter. Her husband passed away in July 1919. She leaves to mourn, a family of three, Charles of Vancouver BC, Eva, Mrs. David Weir of Winnipeg MB, and Jeanie, Mrs. J. Hunter of Ormstown Quebec, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held from her late residents on Friday January 14th, service conducted by her pastor, the Rev. C. L. Taylor.

01-13-1944 Annie E.LeRossignol, daughter of the late Mrs. James Henderson, died at her late residents, 651 Grosvenor Avenue, Westmount Quebec, in her 80th year.

01-14-1944 Catherine Elizabeth McCaig, beloved wife of the late James Logan, died at the Barrie Memorial Hospital in Ormstown Quebec, in her 80th year. She was born on the third concession of St Louis de Gonzague, 81 years ago, and was predeceased by her husband in 1927, also one son, Duncan, in 1938. She is survived by John, who resides in Montreal, and three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. A MacArthur of Huntingdon, Mrs.Palethorpe of Penlington BC, Mrs. Atkinson of Ottawa Ontario, James and William McCaig of Montreal, also a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral was held from the Ormstown Presbyterian Church, service conducted by the Rev. Bingham of Georgetown. The remains were deposited in the vault and will later be taken to Georgetown Cemetery for burial.

01-23-1944 Miss Isabel Morris, of Aubrey-Riverfield Quebec, died at the Barrie Memorial Hospital in Ormstown Quebec. Funeral services were held from the Howick Church, and Interment was in the Riverfield Cemetery, the sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved sister and brother.

01-21-1944 Mary (Mayme) Reid, beloved daughter of the late Thomas Reid, died at Ormstown Quebec. She was the second daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Reid, who after an operation was able to return to her home in Eastmount. She leaves to mourn, three sisters, Mrs. J. D. Bryson of Allen's Corners Quebec, Miss Jean at home, and Mrs. L. H. Morgan, of Wakopa Manitoba, 10 nephews and two nieces. Funeral service was held from her late residents, service conducted by her pastor, the Rev. C. L. Taylor.

He is survived by his widow, Mary McKnight, formerly of Kilkeel, County Down, Ireland, and seven children, P. D. Thompson, with the Canadian forces in Italy, Sergeant R. J. Thompson, RCAF, in England, Sergeant J. W. Thompson, Army, Camp Borden ON, Elizabeth J. Thompson of Westmount and Howick Quebec, Corporal J. L. Thompson, RCAF, Lachine Quebec, Florence M. Thompson, W. R., (Mrs. Charles H. Davis) of Caterham, Surrey, England. He is also C.N.S., Nova Scotia, and Anna M., survived by daughters-in-law, Mrs. Philip D. Thompson and Mrs. James L. Thompson, of Verdun Quebec, six grandchildren, Margaret, June, Norma, and Barbara Thompson, children of his eldest son Philip, and Phillip and Charles Davis, commissioned officer in the British Royal Marines. Mr. Thompson was previously married to Elizabeth McKnight, also of Kilkeel, County Down, Ireland, the mother of his children who died in 1929. Mr. Thompson was born in November 13, 1881, in Kilkeel, County Down, Ireland. Funeral service was held in the Ormstown Presbyterian Church, services conducted by the Rev. A. Bingham of Georgetown Presbyterian Church in Howick Quebec.

01-30-1944 Thomas Linden Henderson, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry N. Henderson of the Gore, Hinchinbrooke Quebec, died at Sunland, California on Sunday January 30th, age 37 years. Linden was the youngest son of the late Henry N.Henderson and Minnie Lever's of the Gore, Hinchinbrooke Quebec. He resided there till the age of 14 years, when he left for a trip to the Canadian West, after which he went to Toronto, then to Detroit MI, where he resided untill a short time before his death, when he moved to California for his health. He was united in marriage to Pauline Johnston. To this union was born 1 son, Douglas. He leaves to Mourn besides his wife and son, a sister, Pearl, Mrs. Robert Beatty of Dewittville Quebec, a brother Clarence, of the Gore, Hinchinbrooke Quebec, two half-sisters, Miss Hazel Henderson of Montreal, and Miss Audrey Henderson of Huntingdon Quebec, two half-brothers, Andrew Henderson of the Gore, and Nelson Henderson of the Navy. Interred in Sunland Cemetery.

01-28-1944 Mary McGinnis, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McGinnis of Athelstan Quebec, died at Huntingdon Quebec. Mary was in a business with her sister, Mrs. J. M. McGinnis, under the name of, the Little Shop, on Chateaugay Street in Huntingdon for many years. She was one of a family of 13, all of whom were musicians, in fact that family had an orchestra of their own at one time. She is survived by her sister, Miss Jane McGinnis, and a brother, Frederick McGinnis, both of Huntingdon. Funeral service was held at St. Joseph's Church in Huntingdon Quebec, service conducted by the Rev. Father Lussier.

Lorrain Carriere of Massena New York, three sisters, Mrs.Delima Hart of Massena New York, Mrs. Eddy Galipeau of Huntingdon, and Mrs Emery Latour, of Valleyfield, also eight brothers, Frank, Adelard, Wilfred, Lawrence and Hormisdas of Valleyfield, Samuel of St. Agnes, Clarence and Harmand of St Louis de Gonzague, three aunts and three uncles, 21 nieces and 19 nephews.

02-04-1944 Mrs. L. P. Godbout, of Valleyfield Quebec, beloved wife of L. P.Godbout, of Chateau Salaberry, Valleyfield Quebec, died at Notre Dame Hospital in Montreal Quebec.

02-04-1944 Ella Waggoner, wife of the late George Henry Hawes, died at her late residents, 66 Sherbrooke Street West, in her 83rd year. Interred in Athelstan Cemetery, Quebec. Mr Hawes predeceased her 11 years ago, she leaves two sons, two daughters, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday evening at the Armstrong Chapel on Park Avenue. Mr. Art McMillan had charge of the committal service at the grave on Sunday.

01-19-1944 Elizabeth Barrie, wife of Thomas E. Jenkins, died at Port Alma Ontario, in her 84th year. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Barrie and Jean Warden. She is the last surviving member of the family.

02-03-1944 Janet McKell, beloved wife of the late Matthew Knox, died at Howick Quebec, in her 90th year. She is survived by one daughter, Eva, who tenderly took care of her mother, two sons, James of Huntingdon, and Edwin of Howick. Funeral service was held on Saturday at her late home, conducted by Rev. Mr. Bingham.

Mrs. McNaughton was born about 50 years ago in Dundee, daughter of John and Lucy Fallon Bannon. She had made her home for years with an uncle, Mr. James Bannon of Montreal. She was a trained nurse, but retired from professional practice years ago because of a chronic ailment. Surviving are one daughter, Miss Margaret McNaughton of Montreal, her uncle with whom she resided, and a cousin, Moore Bannon, also of Montreal. Funeral services were held from St. Joseph's Church in Huntingdon Quebec, Interment was made their.

Besides his wife, he leaves five sons and one daughter, Edward Mayville of Detroit MI, Dolores Mayville of London ON, Arthur Mayville of Cornwall ON, Mrs. Adrien Vincelette of Fort Covington NY, Louis Mayville, at home, Napoleon Mayville in Kingston ON. He also leaves two brothers and one sister, Oliver Mayville of Fort Covington NY, Israel Mayville of St. Agnes de Dundee, and Mrs. Fred Gravel of Montreal. Funeral was held in the Church of the Nativity for the Libera. He was placed in the vault at Nativity Cemetery.

02-14-1944 Annie McIntosh, beloved wife of the late Peter McArthur of Valleyfield Quebec, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Donald McEwen in Ormstown Quebec, in her 85th year. She was born at Rockburn Quebec, July 17th, 1859, daughter of the late Mr. Alexander McIntosh and his wife, Agnes Sever, received her education at Rockburn and Huntingdon Quebec. In 1883, she married the late Mr. Peter MacArthur, then she came to Dewittville, where she has always maintain her home. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. John Gordon of Dewittville, two daughters, Mrs. Donald McEwen (Agnes), of Ormstown Quebec, (Ollie) Mrs. A. E. Booth of Montreal West, and one son, Mr. C. A. MacArthur, also five grandchildren. Funeral service was held at the home of her son, service conducted by her pastor, Dr. McLean of Huntingdon.Interred at Huntingdon Quebec.

He was born at Ormstown Quebec in 1857, son of the late John McKeegan and Mary McMullen, and brother of the late Mrs. P.J. Cavanagh. also of Ormstown. Surviving is one son, Dennis, two daughters, Helen and Mary at home, three sons predeceased him, Jimmie killed on active service March 31, 1916, John and Mickey drowned May 22, 1930, besides nephews and nieces. Segar of St. Rami Quebec, a sister, Annie, Mrs. Danielle Morrison of Elgin, and a brother, Henry of Boston, predeceased her some years ago. 03-15-1944 William Lang, formerly of Aubrey Quebec, died at Okotoks AB. Mr. Lang was one of eight children born to a pioneer Scotch family, who settled at Aubrey Quebec, in 1822. He was in turn a Western pioneer coming to the Okotoks district in 1889. Here he homesteaded and has continued to reside. In 1891, he was married to Mary Cabot of Howick Quebec, at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Allen of Okotoks. Surviving are children, Wilfred of Okotoks, Albert of Edmonton, and Florence, Mrs.Munkholm of Black Diamond, three grandchildren, Jim and Mary Munkholm and Donald Lang. One brother, Daniel, resides at Brysonville Quebec, and one sister, Mrs. Allan of Okotoks AB. Funeral service was held in the United Church at Okotoks AB.

Perry and his wife, formerly Miss Ida Beattie in Winnipeg MB. She was born at Covey Hill Quebec, attending school there and followed the family to BC. Her brother's, R. Martin, of Winnipeg, and William W. of Vancouver, her sisters are Flossie, Mrs. Stanley Wade, and Miss Florida Perry of Kelowna, Delia, Mrs. Fred Hawe of Vancouver BC. Funeral service was held on April 01, at Mount Pleasant Parlors in Vancouver, to be followed by Interment at Kelowna B.C., where her parents are buried. It is only about four months since Mrs. Perry's death.

She was the second daughter of the late Thomas Lavery and his wife, Ann Maither. In 1877 she was united in marriage to John Crutchfield and made their home on the Gore Road, Hinchinbrooke Quebec. The mother of two daughters and three sons, she was bereaved by the sudden passing inside of three years of her husband and Neely, (Ella) Mrs. James E. MacLaren. Surviving are her three sons, William A of Huntingdon, Harvey S., of Trowbridge CA, and J. Kenneth, of Edmonton AB. Seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, also her three sisters, Mrs. Ellen Traverse of Ottawa Ontario, Mrs. Helena MacLaren, of New Milford CT, Mrs. Emma Gamble of Herdman Quebec. She was born on the farm now owned by Mr. and Mrs. William Hamilton, east of Ormstown, where her father and mother farmed before moving to Ormstown. Surviving are a nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. George Cranston of Montreal, and a number of cousins also. Funeral was held Wednesday April 19, in St. James Anglican Church, of which she has been a lifelong member. Service conducted by her pastor, Rev. W. T. Payne.

04-19-1944 Mary Agnes Wilson, beloved wife of the late Lorenzo James McClatchy, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Earl, at Chateauguay New York, in her 75th year. She was the youngest daughter of William and Mary Jane (Platt) Wilson of Hinchinbrooke Quebec. She was born October 22, 1869. She was united in marriage with Lorenzo James McClatchy on April 27th, 1892, and they made their home in the Powerscourt district for 50 years, since Mr. McClatchy's death two years ago, she has made her home with her daughters. She leaves to mourn, two daughters, Mildred, Mrs. Willard Blair of Franklin Center Quebec, and Bernice, Mrs. Kenneth Earl of Chateauguay, four grandchildren, Howard and Earle Blair, Kay and Carol Earl, a number of nephews and nieces and one cousin, Mrs. A. Alderdice of Montreal. Funeral was held Friday afternoon from the Earl home and service at the Powerscourt Church, by her pastor, Rev. J. H. Woodside, assisted by the Rev. T. F. 05-11-1944 Martha Simpson, wife of Samuel Henderson, died at the Barrie Memorial Hospital in Ormstown Québec, age 87 years 03 months. She was born at Rockburn Québec, on February 15th, 1857, daughter of the late Matthew Simpson and his wife Charlotte Beatty. On April 10, 1877, she was united in marriage to Samuel Henderson of this community, who predeceased her 18 years ago. Two years ago Mrs. Henderson fell in her home fracturing her hip. On February 10, she suffered a stroke and had been in failing health, being cared for by Mrs. V. Gilker for the past month, when she was taken to the Hospital. She leaves to mourn, one sister, Mrs. Lottie Graham, her two sons, Robert and William, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. William Henderson, six grandsons, two granddaughters, and two great-granddaughters. Funeral services were held in the Gore United Church, service conducted by her pastor, the Rev. W. S. Hatcher of Huntingdon and Herdman Anglican Church, of which she was a member. Interment was in the Gore Cemetery.

He had a widely varied career in the medical profession; he was a veteran of the first great war, having served three and one-half years overseas with the Royal Canadian Medical Core. The remains were brought to North Georgetown Church, service their conducted by the Rev. Mr. Bingham. Interred in the Georgetown Cemetery in the family plot.

06-21-1944 Blanche Brooks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Brooks, died at Brasher Falls New York, age 19 years. She was the only daughter of Alphonse T. and Malvina Castagner Brooks, she was a patient at the Hepburn Hospital in Ogdensburg on four different occasions, and six weeks at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. She was born in Niagara Falls on December 29th, 1924, and moved to Massena with her parents three years ago to their farm home where she died. She leaves to mourn, her parents, one brother, Thomas, her grandmothers, Mrs. Sarah Monique Castagner and Mrs. Mary Fuller Brooks in St. Agnes Québec. Several Aunts, Uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

06-29-1944 Mr. A. F. (Sandy) MacLennan, beloved husband of Daisy May Moody of Dundee Québec, died at Dundee Québec, age 68 years. Only two weeks ago his son, Alastair, passed away. Born in Dundee Township, 68 years ago, son of the late Farquhar MacLennan and his wife, Elizabeth McCracken, residing in Dundee all his life. His first wife, the late Nancy Colquhoun, died in 1917, to this union there were two children, James, who passed away in 1929, and Elizabeth, Mrs. Ronald Dick of Montreal. On November 26, 1919, he married Daisy May Moody of Dundee, and there were two of a family, Jean, who is with her mother at present, and Alastair, who predeceased his father two weeks ago. A sister, Mrs. D. McQuaig of Bainsville Ontario. Funeral service was held at the home, service conducted by his pastor, Mr. Argie McMillan, of Athelstan and Elgin Presbyterian churches. 06-26-1944 Fred Bustard, youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Bustard of Havelock Québec, died at St. Vincent's Hospital in Pinscher Creek AB, at 1:00, A. M. age 68 years. The deceased was born in Havelock Québec, in 1876. He went West in 1904, and has made his home their ever since. In 1909, he married Mrs. Florence Lillian Read, a daughter of well known and respected old-timers there. Besides his wife there are six children left, George of Pincher Creek, Lauren of Lundbreck, Mrs. Ray Gregory of Brocket, Mrs. G. S. McClain of Pincher Creek, Mrs. J. A. Copeland of Lethbridge, and Freddie at home. Also some grandchildren, he was predeceased by one daughter, Florence, who passed away August 11th of last year. He was also a brother of the late Thomas Bustard, and the late Mrs.Ab Clayland of Hemmingford, also the late Mrs. James Barr of Covey Hill Québec. 07-06-1944 Rev. John George Fulcher, beloved husband of Marian Caldwell Tannehill, died suddenly at Lake Megantic Québec, age 67 years. Interment in Huntingdon Québec. He was pastor of the United Church there. He was born in Suffolk, England, coming to Canada as a young man and entered the Wesleyan Theological College in Montreal to study for the ministry. Surviving are his wife, formerly Marion Caldwell Tannehill of Huntingdon Québec, one son, Gordon, of Montreal West, two granddaughters, Jesse and Mary Fulcher, one daughter in law Mrs. Gordon Fulcher. One daughter, Eleanor Marion, predeceased him in infancy. Funeral service was held in Knox United Church at Lake Megantic on Saturday afternoon, and a Masonic service was held on Sunday evening. Interment in Huntingdon Cemetery.

07-10-1944 William Arthur Hunter, beloved husband of the late Sarah Emma Henderson, died in the Huntingdon County Hospital, Monday morning, age 78 years. He had been confined to his bid for the past four months, the deceased reached the age of 78 years on July 9th. He was born in Huntingdon Québec, and for many years was employed by the Canadian National Railway. In fraternal circles, he was a member of Chateaugay Lodge No. 36 A.F.& A.M. and for many years its secretary. He was a devoted member of St. John's Church. In late years, he had conducted a coal business in town and has served many people so amicably, that once you started buying coal from Mr. Hunter or his late father-in-law, Robert Henderson, he just continue to do so year after year. These two men, with their superb disposition, had many friends and commercial friends that stuck to them with a marked degree of perpetuity. The deceased was the husband of the late Sarah Emma Henderson, surviving is a daughter, Beverly, Mrs. C. J. Kyle of Huntingdon, also a daughter, Lois, Mrs. Kenneth Dunn, a son, Mr. Gerald Hunter, of Montreal, and a sister, Mrs. Fanny Sparks of Holyoke MA.

06-30-1944 Rev. Albert Sutton Cleland, formerly of Ormstown Québec, died suddenly at Morin Québec, in his 70th year. He was born and Lachute Québec, and moved to Ormstown as a child. He was ordained as a minister of the Methodist Church in 1910. He married Dorinda Sangster who died in 1921. In 1925 he married Elizabeth Connell of Spencerville, who survives with three children, Mrs. P. G. Fairbairn of Toronto ON, Walter Cleland of Dawson Creek BC, and Mrs. B. K. Tedford of Norwood. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. John Mackereth of New Westminister BC, and Mrs. M. Ellery of Montreal. Funeral service was held at Norwood ON.

She was born in St Anicet Québec, in 1878, daughter of the late Joseph Carriere and his wife, Philomene Roi. In 1897 she married Israel Mayville and settled in Dundee Québec, where they have resided ever since. He was born at Boyd Settlement, Hinchinbrooke Québec, on May 29, 1856, on the farm of his father, Mr. Walter Walch and his mother, Mary McConville. In 1883 he was united in marriage to Margaret McCollum and went to live on the farm at St Anicet. His wife predeceased him in 1930. Left to mourn, three sons and six daughters, Alex of Montreal, Walter and his son Kenneth, and Marcus, all at home on the farm, Mattie, Mrs. George Jock of Bombay NY, Celia, Mrs. Walter Mott, of New York City, Teresa, Mrs. Ed McGinn of St Anicet, Stella, Mrs. Pat O'Connor, and Grace, Mrs. Tom O'Connor, both of Huntingdon Québec, also Gertrude at home. She was daughter of the late Ernest Scoble and his wife, Harriet Fleet, Now Mrs. Goodfellow of Surrey, England. She immigrated to Canada at the age of 14 years, going to live with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Rember in upper Ormstown concession, making her home there for a number of years, when she was united in marriage to Mr. Leney in January, 1936. She leaves to mourn, her husband, her mother, and one brother. The remains were brought to the home of Mr. Walter Rember, funeral was held on Monday September 17th, in the Ormstown Presbyterian Church, service conducted by her pastor, Rev. H. A. Pritchard.

10-06-1944 Martha Arnold, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Arnold of Dundee Québec, died at the Toronto Western Hospital, age 75 years. She was born at the Arnold Homestead in Dundee Québec, on December 31st, 1868, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Arnold. After retiring from teaching, Miss Arnold made her home in Fort Covington NY from 1927 until 1940. Afterwards residing in Dundee with her brother, Mr. James A. Arnold, until she went to Toronto to live. Surviving are one brother of Dundee, and two sisters, Margaret, Mrs. J. E. Ross, and Mrs. Elliott, both of Toronto. A sister, Mrs. Francis Napier passed away in March 1940. A short memorial service was held in Toronto for the deceased, the body was brought to Dundee by train, arriving at St. Agnes Québec on Monday. Two nieces of the deceased accompanied the body. Funeral services were held in Dundee Center, from the James A. Arnold home, then to the Zion United Church, service conducted by the Rev. A. E. Hagar, pastor of the Church. Interred at Dundee Québec.

She was born at Norton Creek, near Howick Québec, on June 16, 1852. She was married to Duncan McDermid in 1874, who died in 1928. They engaged in farming for many years, where Mr. McDermid was later employed for many years by the Montreal Locomotive Works. She leaves in addition to her daughter, Mrs. Shotten, Mrs. McDermid is survived by three sons, Rupert J. of Fairmont IN, William W. Oakland CA, and Steven of Huntingdon Québec, 14 grandchildren, several of whom are serving in the Armed Forces. A brother, Adam Easton, of Huntingdon also survives. Dr. Gartner was the second son of Peter and Amelia Gardner of Dundee Québec, and was the last surviving of six sons born to them. His grandfather, Alexander Gardner, and his grandmother, with other relatives, were pioneers from Scotland. Dr. Gartner was born and raised on the homestead in Dundee, now owned by Mr. Forsyth, of the law firm of Brown, Montgomery and McMichael of Montreal. Of the six sons of Peter and Mrs. Gardner, threre shows the legal profession and one medicine, and Dr. Gartner was a prominent physician in the Parker Slope section of the Brooklyn Borough, New York City, for many years until he retired with his wife to Manhattan, and then later to San Diego CA. Dr. Gartner leaves surviving him, his widow, Mary French Gardner, formerly of Mexico, New York, and his sisters, Mrs. Ida A and Edith A Gardner, both living in New York City, and Mrs. Gertrude Gardner Wilson of Southern Pines, North Carolina.

Upon retirement as a teacher, Mrs. Rose went to Pullman Washington, where she received her degree as Bachelor of Arts from the University there at the age 60. She traveled extensively on this continent and in Europe. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. A. G. McBean of Regina Saskatchewan, and Mrs. Laura Rose Stephen of Ottawa, four brothers, W. P. Rose of Ayr ND, Dr. F. W. Rose of Cooperstown ND, Dr. John Rose of Chicago IL, and Dr. Frank Rose of Spokane Washington. Also nephews and nieces. Interned at Georgetown ON.

12-12-1944 Curtis B. Welch, son of the late George Welch, died at Ville St. Pierre, age 58 years. Burial at Franklin Center Québec.

11-29-1944 Mary Fitzsimonds, wife of the late Benjamin Douglas Young, formerly of Huntingdon Québec, died at Masonville Québec, in her 83rd year. She was born on the Gore, Hinchinbrooke Quebec, August 7th, 1862, the youngest daughter of John Fitzsimons and Margaret Adair. She was married in 1888, in Huntingdon Quebec, and she and her late husband, who predeceased her in 1918, move to Masonville in the same year, and bought the farm on which she resided until her death. Following prayers at the home, funeral services were held in the Masonville United Church, of which the deceased was a member, Saturday, December 02. Service conducted by the Rev. W. A. Morrison. Interment was made in the family plot at Masonville Cemetery.

12-27-1944 Maude Ellen Arthur, dearly beloved wife of Andrew P. Mack of Athelstan Québec, died suddenly at the Huntingdon County Hospital, in her 57th year. She was born in Rockburn Québec, in 1888, eldest daughter of the late Mr. William Arthur and Mrs. Arthur, she leaves to mourn, her husband, also one son, Allen, two daughters, Muriel, Mrs. Kenneth Hamilton, and Eva, four grandchildren. Funeral service was held at the Athelstan Presbyterian Church, service conducted by the Rev. R. McMillan, in the absence of her pastor, Rev. J. H. Woodside. Interment was made in the Huntingdon Cemetery.

12-25-1944 George Leslie Rutherford, husband of Margrethe F. Lindsay, died at the Barrie Memorial Hospital in Ormstown Québec, in his 38th year. Interment at the Union Cemetery Ormstown Québec. He was son of the late James Rutherford and Lottie Stewart, and resided on the Tullochgorum Road until he moved to the River Outarde, where he bought the Leach farm, his death was the result of an explosion of oil, which he was heating on the stove to thaw auto oil pump and caused the death of her father and son.

12-30-1944 John Cantelo Blatchford, of Boyd Settlement, Hinchinbrooke Québec, dearly beloved husband of Agnes Lindsay MacDonald, died suddenly at Huntingdon Québec, age 72 years. He was the son of John Blatchford and his wife, Ann Cameron, and was born on April 17th, 1872. He leaves to mourn, his wife, three brothers, Hughes C. Blatchford of Colonsay Saskatchewan, Henry of Marlowe Avenue in Montreal, and Charles of Huntingdon, three sisters, Mrs. E. Stewart of Elgin Township, Mrs. F.N. Williams of Ormstown, and Mrs. W. B. Leney of Montreal. Funeral service conducted at the home by Rev. T. Knowles of the United Church. Interred in Huntingdon Québec.

12-31-1944 Jana Margaret Rutherford, beloved wife of Dufferin Leclair, died at Grace Dart Hospital, Montreal Québec, age 43 years. Funeral from the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. McNaughton, to the Ormstown Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Leclair was born at Tullochgorum Québec, daughter of the late James Rutherford and his wife, Lottie Stewart. She was united in marriage on May 07, 1928, to Dufferin E. Leclair, besides her husband, there are three children to mourn, Luella, Clifford, and Murray, her mother, Mrs. Lottie Rutherford, one sister, Mrs. Florence McKay of Montreal, two brothers,Stuart of Spencer Massachusetts, and Nelson, of Tullochgorum. The remains were brought to Ormstown Québec, to the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. M. McNaughton, from there the funeral was held on Wednesday, January 3rd, to the Presbyterian Church, service there conducted by Rev. H. A. Prichard, assisted by Rev. W. T. Payne.

12-29-1944 Donald Blair Young, died at the Haven of Rest Convalescent Home in Manchester NH, age 90 years, 02 months, 16 days. He is survived by two brothers, Duncan A. Young and Alfred Young, both of Ormstown Québec, also a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Kirkland of Huntingdon Québec.
