01-13-1946 Ernest Metcalf, died at Hemmingford Quebec, in his 62nd year. He was born at Covey Hill Quebec, only son of the late Ellen Buchanan and William Metcalf who predeceased him some years ago. Funeral services were held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Maynard and was largely attended, service was conducted by the Rev. T. Knowles of Huntingdon. After which the Masons held a Masonic service at the grave. Burial was beside his parents at the Wesley Church in County Hill Quebec.

12-10-1945 Ann W. Travers, beloved wife of Ronald A. Saunders, died at her residence, 126 Bayswater Avenue, Ottawa ON, in her 59th year. She was born in Ormstown Quebec, the daughter of Ellen Lavery and the late Richard Travers. She came to Ottawa 45 years ago and was married in 1910 to Ronald A. Saunders. A member of St. Mathias Anglican Church, she was active in Women's organizations. Surviving beside her mother and husband, are two sons, Allen R. of Ottawa, and Travers, of Toronto, one daughter, Mrs. Edward Curry, of Pembroke ON, one brother, William Travers of Ottawa, three sisters, Mrs. Olive Peak, and Mrs. B. Foster of Ottawa, and Mrs. M.Terbush of Detroit MI. Burial was in Merivale Cemetery.

01-11-1946 John Watson, died at Onondaga Hospital, in Syracuse NY, in his 66th year. He was the only son of the late David Watson and his wife, Mary Anne Wattie, who together with a sister, predeceased him several years ago. The deceased was born in Elgin Township Quebec, where he spent the greater part of his life. The last 17 years he had been employed in and around Syracuse NY. He is survived by his sister, Margaret, Mrs. William Irwin. Funeral services were held in the Athelstan Presbyterian Church, service conducted by the Rev. R. W. Carr. Interred in the family a lot in the Athelstan Cemetery.

12-19-1945 Nelson Taylor Saunders, died at Edmonton AB, he is survived by his wife Ethel Richardson, of Montreal and sisters, Bessie, Mrs. A.C. Blackwood of Calgary AB, Ethel, Mrs. K. M. Chalmers of St. Lambert Quebec, Hazel, Mrs. F. W. Hutchings of Athelstan Quebec, Margaret, Mrs.L.F. Fyles of Bethel VT, two brothers, Thomas P. Saunders of Granddora Saskatchewan, and James W. Saunders of Moose Jaw Saskatchewan. The deceased was born at Havelock Quebec, September 13th, 1887, going west at the age of 17 years. His remains were brought east and the funeral service was in St. John's Church, Huntingdon Quebec.

He was born in Howick Quebec, son of the late Richard Hamilton and his wife, Mary Stuart. He is survived by his wife, the former Andria Florence Barr, and three daughters, Mrs. James C. Calder of Mount Royal, Mrs. Ernest J. Boyd of Montreal, and Miss Mary Evelyn Hamilton, R.N., at home, also by one sister, Mrs. J. Morrison of Howick Quebec, and two brothers, Thomas Hamilton of Howick, and James Hamilton of Huntingdon, two granddaughters, Linda and Brenda Calder, a daughter, Roberta, predeceased him in 1921.

01-20-1946 Daniel G. McFarlane, died in his late residents in Elgin Township Québec, in his 86th year. He was the eldest son of the late George L. McFarlane and his wife, Christena Anderson, both of Elgin. He was married January 01, 1890, to Helen Black, who predeceased him nine years ago. He is survived by two sons, Gordon and Andrew McFarlane, three daughters,Mrs. George Bryson, Miss Cora and Miss Helen McFarlane, two sisters, Miss Margaret and Miss Mary McFarlane, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, one son, George, died in infancy. Funeral services were held in the Huntingdon United Church, service conducted by his pastor, Rev. R. W. Carr, assisted by the Rev. T. Knowles and Dr. J. D. McLean. Burial to place in the Huntingdon Protestant Cemetery.

01-19-1946 William McCartney, eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James McCartney, died in his home in Huntingdon Québec, age 79 years 03 months. He was born in Huntingdon Québec Oct. 09, 1866, eldest son of James McCartney and Mary Watson. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Charlotte McCartney, one daughter, Doris, a step daughter, Mrs. Edna Todd, of Montreal, two step sons, Allen and Elmer Harrigan, one sister, Ellen, Mrs. H. Douglas of Huntingdon, two brothers, Charles of Saranac Lake, and John of Tacoma WA.

01-13-1946 Miss Mary McCauley, a native of St. Agnes, died at Hospital in Ottawa ON. The deceased was born over 70 years ago at St. Agnes, a daughter of John and Margret Dineen McCauley. Since the ordination of her brother, Rev. William McCauley to the priesthood over 45 years ago, she has kept house for him at Ottawa. She is survived by two brothers, Dennis of Ottawa and Edward of Minneapolis MN, also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held in Ottawa ON, and burial was in the Cemetery there where two brothers, the Rev. William, and John McCauley, and two sisters, Kate and Sarah McCauley were buried.

He was the first in the district to grow strawberries. Mr. Smellie was born in Huntingdon Quebec, in 1889, son of the late William James Smellie and Joan Gould. In 1917, he married June Evelyn Loveless and to that union, three sons and one daughter were born. One son predeceased him 16 years ago. He leaves beside his wife, Robert and James, one daughter, Mrs. S. C. Brag of Montreal, one granddaughter, Sandra, two sisters, Mrs. Georgina Arthur, and Mrs. Rabina Campbell, two brothers, William James and John Smellie of Huntingdon.

03-05-1946 Robert Thompson Brownlee, beloved husband of Delia Cleveland, died at the Barrie Memorial Hospital in Ormstown Quebec, in his 79th year. Funeral service in the United Church, Hemmingford Quebec. He was born on October 20th, 1863, and spent his entire life on the farm, which he owned at the time of his death. On December 21st, 1898, he was married to Delia Margaret Cleveland. To this union six children were born, four daughters and two son's, Edna, Mrs. Alfred Cookman, Geneva, Mrs. Walter Kyle, of Cabri SK, Hazel, Archie and Elliott, one daughter, Ethel, died in infancy. Besides his family, he leaves to Mourn, three sisters, and three brothers and a host of friends. Funeral service held from St. Andrew's United Church on Mar. 08,service conducted by the Rev. R. C. He was born in Dundee, August 27, 1874, son of Moses and Elizabeth Brunson Miller, and had spent his entire lifetime there. On October 14, 1896, he married Miss Margaret Ann Armstrong, who survives, two children born to Mr. and Mrs. Miller predeceased him, and infant daughter,Sanfretta, passed away in 1907, and a son, Kenneth, died at the age 20, in July, 1924. One sister, Mrs. Arthur, (Sarah), McMaster, also predeceased him.

He was born at Elm Creek Farm, near Allen's Corners Quebec, on June 25th, 1877, he was the only son of the late Alexander Steele and Eliza Cowan Bryson. Almost his entire life was spent on the farm, on October 10, 1900, he was married to Jane S. C. McCormick, who predeceased him in May, 1936, also two son's, the eldest, Archie A. R., who died of the flu in 1918, and the youngest, Alex S. in August 1942,. Surviving are David B. of Bartonsville VT, and Donald R. of Toronto ON, besides four sisters, Mrs. Agnes Armour, Mrs. Margaret Martin, Mrs. Alice Webb, and Mrs. Florence Leney, and three grandchildren. Several years ago he lost his beloved wife, Elizabeth MacArthur, of Dewittville, and in 1942, the accidental death in Scotland of his son, Sargeant J. Harrell Kelly, wireless air gunner, surviving are three sons, MacArthur, his eldest son, Alastair and George who recently returned from overseas, also two sisters, Laura, Mrs. Yates of Vancouver BC, and Jean, Mrs. McBride of Cranbrook BC. The youngest sister, Marion, Mrs. L. W. Low, died in Montreal in 1937, his only brother, Wilfrid, also survives him, residing in Hinchinbrooke on the adjacent farm. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Brown, a native of Huntingdon, and his wife, Margaret Chalmers. She was married in 1920, to Arthur Odell, a native of Port Hope Ontario. She is survived by her husband and young daughter, and by her mother and only brother, both of whom are now resident in Huntingdon.

She was united in marriage with Frederick A. Tupper of Canton, ceremony conducted by the Rev. S. L. Baker at Russell. DeKalb Junction, USA. Interred in DeKalb. They were the parents of four children, Roy A. Tupper, whose death occurred December 07,1935, Lotia, now Mrs. Floyd Ruger of Ormstown, Lyle of this village who is with the New York Central Railway, and resides with his mother, and Stillman Tupper of Ogdensburg. Mr. Tupper death occurred in 1932. She was married first to the late Thomas Moir of Huntingdon Quebec, and second to William Rosebrugh of Winnipeg MB. Her sister Eva was married to John A Brown of Huntingdon, both of whom predeceased her. Her only child, Eileen Moir, graduated as a registered nurse from the Hospital in Springfield MA. She was married to Gaston Riou, distinguished scholar, writer, and political leader in France.

08-01-1946 Ernest Andrew McHardy, beloved husband of Mary Ross, died suddenly at Athelstan Quebec, in his 70th year. He and his family lived for several years in Burke New York, after which they returned to Powerscourt to the farm which he still owned at the time of his death. Together with his wife, formerly Mary Ross, and son Gordon, have resided in Athelstan for the past 22 years. He was the eldest son of the late Charles McHardy and his wife, Margaret Montgomery. Two sons, Lee and Harold predeceased him several years ago. He is survived by his wife, son Gordon, one sister, Mrs. Lucy McCormick of Huntingdon, and three brother's, Kenneth of Minneapolis, Elmer of Seymour Connecticut, and Ray of Bridgeport Connecticut. Stewart, age 84 years, He was the youngest son of the late William Orr and lived on the old homestead in Riverfield, until three years ago, he was born on June 24th, 1862. He was a devoted husband and father and had a kind and friendly disposition and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was married on October 16th, 1895, to Mary Elizabeth Stewart, who predeceased him by two years. He is survived by one daughter, Mayford, and four grandchildren of whom he was very fond, one brother, James of Vancouver. Funeral service was held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m., from Ormstown to the Riverfield Presbyterian Church, of which he was an elder. Funeral service was conducted by the Rev. William McBride, assisted by the Rev. H. Pritchard of Ormstown. He was carried to his last resting place by Chester Orr, Donald Black, Eddie Hooker, Osborne Orr, Glenn Ovens and John McKell. He married Dorothy May Hamilton in January 1933 and in 1937 they moved to Franklin Center Québec, where they farmed for two years, then returning to his father's farm. He was born July 29th, 1870, on the old homestead, which has been in the McCormick family for over one hundred and twenty years where he always lived. On October 18, 1899, he was united in managed to Sarah Healey of Chateauguay New York, who survived him, also one daughter, Florence, of Lake Placid New York, four son's, Arthur of Washington D.C., Clifford of Saranac Lake, Earl of Chateauguay New York, and Francis who resides at home. Three children predeceased him, John who died in infancy, Marguerite on May 22, 1934, and Dr. Gerald McCormick on September 22, 1945. In addition to the above, he is survived by one brother, John of Chateauguay New York, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Surviving are his wife, the former Agnes Greig, and eight children. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Moses Miller and his wife, Margaret Caldwell of Dundee Quebec. For sixty five years she had been a resident of Huntingdon. She was the mother of nine children, two of them died in early infancy. Six of the others married and for many years have been settled in homes of their own, but one of them, her youngest son, James Barkley, principal of Huntingdon Academy, has been with her all his life. She is survived by three sons and four daughters, George, dairy inspector, of Apple Hill, Glengarry County ON, Louise, Mrs.Clow of Lyn ON, Ruby, Mrs. C. P. McCrady of Brockville ON, Ethel, Mrs. C. F. McCartney of Saranac Lake New York, Nancy, Mrs. W. S. Henderson of Huntingdon, Donald, stock manager, Roode Bros, Brockville ON and James Barkley, principal. 11-11-1946 Rev. Robert Wallace Dalgleish, well-known Calgary minister, died at the Calgary Hospital, in his 70th year. His pastorates in Alberta included one at High River which he occupied as a Methodist minister after his arrival in the province in 1903. Later becoming pastor at Grace United Church in Edmonton AB. After that he spent fourteen years in Clareshome Alberta and in June 1944, he moved to Calgary where he took up duties as assistant minister at Central United Church until his health failed in January of this year. He was born in Huntingdon Quebec, son of the late W. W. Dalgleish and his wife, Agnes Clark, received his education at McGill University and at Tory College in Toronto. He is survived by his widow, Violet, of Calgary, two daughters, Mrs. W. S. Scarth of Edmonton AB, Mrs. C. B. 12-14-1946 Mary Brownlee, beloved wife of the late Robert Quest, died at the Regina Hospital in Regina Saskatchewan. She was daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brownlee of Hemmingford Quebec, her husband and one son predeceased her a number of years ago, left to mourn, one son, two sisters and two brothers, the sisters are Nellie, Mrs. Julius Cairns, of Mooers New York, Jesse, Mrs. William Payne, two brothers, William and John who reside in the United States. This is the third death in the Brownlee family in one year. Her brother, Robert of Hemmingford, and Jay of Valleyfield, died within the year.
