George Bosworth Day, consular service, is the son of John J. Day, Q.C., of Montreal, by his wife Cybella Ann Eastman, and is of English descent. Born in Montreal December 28, 1836, he was educated at the High School in his native city, and has followed a mercantile career throughout.
He established trade relations between the St. Lawrence and the River Plate in 1867 and was the first Canadian to make direct shipments to Rio De La Plata, since when an important and extensive trade has sprung up between the two countries. He was Consul for the Argentine Republic at Montreal, 1875-1888, and subsequently for Peru. In October 1871 he was appointed Consul-General for Chili in Canada.
He married Mary Ann Frances Mondelet, daughter
of the late Hon. Justice Charles Mondelet
of Montreal.
