By Raphael Ouimet, published Montreal, 1922 (translated by Marc G. Vallieres) The Dumas brothers operated photo studios in Montreal at the beginning of the 20th century. They were born in St.Anselme-de-Dorchester, on the South shore of the St.Lawrence, below Quebec City. They were the children of Aubert Dumas, a farmer, and Anna Baquet dit Lamontagne, who were married in St.Michel-de-Bellechasse on Nov. 14, 1865. The oldest son, J.A., came first to Montreal and operated his studio at 112 Vitre Street, located where the Ville-Marie expressway now stands. His brother Albert, born on Oct. 17, 1880, became an apprentice to J.A. but soon opened his own studio in 1905 on St.Catherine Street, near Sanguinet, in a more fashionable area. Albert was married to Albertine Berard on Jan 23, 1906 in St.Jacques parish in Montreal. He died in Montreal on Dec. 5, 1951and his wife Albertine on Oct. 17, 1960. They had other brothers who
all worked for the Dumas studios.
