GURD, Charles
Born Edgeworthstown, Ireland in 1842. He was educated at Watson's Academy, Montreal, and McGill University. He arrived in Canada with his parents in early childhood.

He entered the firm of which he is now President about 1868. He is a member of the Montreal Board of Trade and the Canadian Manufacturers' Association; life governor of the Montreal General Hospital; Western Hospital and the  Protestant Hospital for the Insane; an officer of the Dominion Commercial Travellers' Association and treasurer of the Dominion Commercial Travellers' Mutual Benefit Society.

GURD, CHARLES - of Charles Curd & Company, Ltd., manufacturers of aerated waters, Montreal; was born in Edgeworthstown, Ireland, in 1842, the son of Joseph Gurd and Marianne Cowers. 

He was educated at Watson's Academy, high school and McGill University, Montreal. He started career as chemist and druggist in 1856 with Lamplough & Campbell, Montreal and entered the firm of which he is now president about 1868. 

He is a member of the Montreal Board of Trade, Canadian Manufacturers' Association, treasurer Dominion Commercial Travellers' Mutual Benefit Society. He is life governor of the Montreal General Hospital, the Western Hospital, the Protestant Hospital for the Insane, and governor of the Congregational College; trustee of the Mount Royal Cemetery Company and director of the Mutual Association for the Blind. 

He was a private in the Royal Victoria Rifles. Elected president by acclamation of the Dominion Commercial Travellers' Association on Nov. 11, 1911. 

He  married Georgina Anne Leslie, daughter of Thomas Leslie, and has two sons and three daughters.

In the 1896 Montreal city directory a Charles C. Gurd was listed as a medical student at McGill. His address was 65 McGill College Ave.
In the 1896 Montreal City directory a David F. Gurd was listed as a physician and surgeon, living at 128 Bishop.
