England, Mrs. Octavia Grace, nee Ritchie - physician. Youngest daughter of the late Thomas W. Ritchie, Q.C., Montreal, she was born in Montreal and educated at McGill University (BA., with 1st class honours in natural science, 1888); graduated M.D., CM. from Bishop’s College, Lennoxville, P.Q. in 1891; and was one of the first class of ladies to graduate from McGill University, as well as the first woman to receive a medical degree in the Province of Quehec. She took a scholar, at Kingston, and subsequently followed a post-graduate course at Vienna; did much to arouse public feeling in favour of the medical education of women in Quebec. She was sec. of the Donalda students to procure this concession. She was a governor of the Western Hospital, Montreal, and assistant. gynaecol. there, 1894-1906. She has lectured on medical subjects before the Women’s Club and Y. W. C. A. She has been a member of the Med.-Chir. Society, Montreal ; a del. Quinquennial Congress, and the National Council of Women, Toronto, 1909. In 1897 she married Frank Richardson England, M.D. Religion : Anglican
