Rhode Island--the Ocean State

For those west of the Mississippi--Rhode Island's acreage
is amazingly small.  From tip to toe 48 miles (N-S) with waist
area at 37 miles (E-W) total area equals 1,214 square miles--
actual land area being 1,045 square miles.!

                                                          Unique to Rhode Island

                                   Surprise! Though there are five counties--Rhode Island has no county.
                           government.  All local government is handled by the 39 municipalities  
                           within those five counties!

Making biographies more available...

The project is possible to do with the help and commitment from current     residents and descendants of early residents who now  live in other 
    states.  Few  of the 50 states had settlement recorded as early as
    Rhode Island.

     
With the oldest library, oldest school house, oldest known monument to veterans, oldest carousel and the oldest  operating tavern in the US--there are many people stories behind the "where" and "when" of Rhode Island. Some have been written but most of them not!
Few of the written ones are web site accessible--we hope to make a visible difference!
