A Transcript of a Bible Belonging to Allen Davoll

Allen Davoll was a sailor from Little Compton, Rhode Island. The bible includes information about the Davoll and Seibel families. (The Seibels lived in Tiverton, RI.)

From an old Bible, Publ. American Bible Society, New York 1865, in very bad condition, in the collection of Thomas Lathrop. Transcribed by Thomas Lathrop and donated to the Newport County RIGenWeb 2003 for individual research use.

August 28, 1873 - Born to Allen and Elizebeth Devall a son A.

On another page of the Bible it says:

on the 26th of February 1868 passed whales and lowered and killed one whale Making 88 Barrells 585 Barrells of Oil on Board

spoke the Merchant ship Labrador of Liverpool she promised to reported us her arrival at Callao

on the 19th of March 1867 passed whales lowered and killed one in the afternoon which Made 116 Barrell which makes 700 barrells in 16 1/2 months out back into port at [?] for repairs 1 sick

[There are several entries in the IGI that pertain to this family, including a record of the marriage of Allen Eber Davoll to Elisabeth Schlegel or Siebel at Tiverton, Newport Co, RI on 26 Oct 1871. Also, the Seibel family is in the 1870 US census in Tiverton, RI, p. 602. At that point Jacob had apparently died and his widow Elizabeth and her children were living with Conrad and Catherine Seibel. "Allen E. Devol", occupation sailor, was living with his parents in Little Compton, Newport Co, RI (1870 census p. 376)]
