THE GENEALOGY OF EDWARD PAYSON CHASE.

I William Chase, b ca 1595, in England, with his wife, Mary and son, William, came to America in the ship with Governor Winthrop and his colony in 1630, settling first in Roxbury. He soon became a member of the church of which the Rev. John Eliot, the Apostle to the Indians, was pastor. Was admitted a freeman May 14 1634. In 1637 he became one of those who made a new settlement at Yarmouth, where he resided for the rest of life, dying in May, 1659. His widow died the following October.

Issue: William, born ca 1622, in England; Mary, born in May 1637, in Roxbury; and Mary (2) born in 1639 in Yarmouth; Benjamin b 1639 Roxbury MA, d 1730 Freetown MA.

II William Chase (2) born ca 1622, in England, married ___ and was a resident of Yarmouth after coming to America with his parents. He died Feb 27, 1685. His children were: William, Jacob, John, Elizabeth, Abraham, Joseph, Benhamin and Samuel.

III William Chase (3) born ca 1645, married first Hannah Sherman and second Priscilla Perry. His children were: William, Eber, Isaac, Nathaniel, Joseph and Hezekiah. The father's will was proved Aug 16, 1737.

IV Isaac Chase married first, 1704, Elizabeth Blethen and second, 1720, Mary Fowler.

His children were: James, Wait, Isaac, William, Elizabeth (all to the first marriage); and Ezekiel, Mary, Robert, David, Lydia, Susanna and Benjamin to the second marriage.

V James Chase, b 12 Feb 1706 in Swansea, Mass, married Alice Anthony and 2^nd, Lydia Goddard Thurston. His children were Elizabeth, Alice, Zaccheus, Mary, Daniel, James, Aaron, Peter, Paul and Isaac.

VI Zaccheus Chase, b 4 Nov 1737 in Freetown, MA, married Elizabeth Gould and they became residents of Portsmouth, RI. He died Aug 16, 1816. Elizabeth died 24 Sept 1821, age 82 years. Their children were: James, b March 5, 1760, Isaac, John, Elizabeth, Shadrach, and Alice.

VII James Chase born 5 March 1760 in Portsmouth RI married Oct 26, 1785, Ruth, born in 1762, daughter of John and Sarah (Sisson) Davis, of Newport, RI. Mr Chase died Jan 31, 1848 in Middletown, RI and Mrs. Chase May 10, 1837, aged 75 years. Their remains rest in Friends cemetery at Newport. Their children were: John, b Aug 8, 1786; Elizabeth; Zaccheus; Daniel; James; Robert Sisson; Mary; and Sarah Davis.

VIII John Chase, born Aug 8, 1786, died Jan 31, 1831, married July 9, 1810, Susanna, born March 30, 1789, daughter of Daniel and Mary (Weaver) Gould, of Middletown, R.I. She died Oct 28, 1870 and they are buried on the farm owned by their eldest son, Daniel.

Their children were: Daniel b July 17, 1811, Edward Sisson, John, Joseph Weaver, James, George Gould, William, Charles Feke, David Buffum, Mary Gould and Ruth Davis.

IX Daniel Chase, son of John and Susanna, b 17 July 1811, d 24 Dec 1896. m 30 Oct. 1834 Martha, daughter of Oliver Wightman of Middletown, and she died 26 Nov 1893.

Their children were: EDWARD PAYSON ; Susan Gould; Charles Feke; Daniel Meader.

X EDWARD PAYSON CHASE, b July 11, 1838, d Dec 7, 1901, son of Daniel and Martha, married March 5, 1872 Sarah Dennis who was born Feb 5, 1843 and who died Oct 12, 1898, both are buried in St. Mary's Episcopal Churchyard, Portsmouth, R.I., as are their children.

Their children were:

infant son, birth not registered, born Dec 10, 1874 died on Dec 16, 1874.

Joseph Weaver Chase, b Aug 8 1876, died Feb 2 1878, Middletown Town Hall Registry of Deaths [Births?], Vol. 2, p. 12

Theresa Gordon Chase, b Apr 27 1878, d Apr 29 1886, Vol. 2, p. 18

stillborn daughter, b/d Jan 29 1881, Vol 2, p 16.
