January 29, 1881 Fourth child, a stillborn daughter on this date. [not mentioned]

Tuesday Feb 8, 1881 Went down to Dr. Benj. Green’s and put on some storm sash.
Feb 11 Sett a hen in the hen house on 14 eggs (March 4)
Feb 15 Worked 3 ½ hours for Father: repairing trap door
Feb 16 Worked 1 ½ hours on trap door
Feb 17 Took up carpet in bedroom and put it down again
Feb 18 Worked 8 ½ hours at Steven P Weaver’s. Paid
Feb 20 Eggs for cash 43 ½ doz $10.07
Feb 22 Worked 6 hours at Steven P Weaver’s. Paid
Feb 23 Sett 2 hens in the old henhouse on 15 & 14 eggs (March 16)
Feb 24 Eggs sold to Oct 22 for cash $23.13

March 1 Sett 2 hens in the new house on 13 & 14 eggs. Some of the eggs from Fathers.
Mar 2 Shelled 4 bus. corn
Mar 3 Worked 6 hours at Daniel’s.
Mar 4 Worked 1 hour at Daniel’s. Sett hen in the henhouse on 16 eggs. #1 first chickens came off today: eight hatched out, one died; three bad eggs and two with chickens in them. Mar 10 lost one chick from this hen. Mar 12 another chick died.
Mar 7 Helped do the washing. Worked 4 ½ hours at Daniel’s paper hanging. Hen #2 came off Mar 18, hatched out 13 chickens,2 did not get out of the shell, one dead.
Mar 8 Finished hanging paper at Daniel’s. Worked 4 ½ hours. #3 hatched out 7, broke 4, 3 bad eggs, a dead chick.
Mar 9 Rainy all day. Hen #4 hatched out 10 chicks; 4 bad eggs, 1 egg broke.
Mar 10 Rainy all day. Took up carpet upstairs. Hen #5 hatched out 16 chicks.
Mar 11 Put down carpet upstairs. Hen #6 hatched out 15 chicks.
Mar 12 Hen #7 hatched out 12, 2 bad eggs. Hen #8 hatched out 12 chicks; one bad egg and 1 dead chick.
Mar 14 Made window screen for Mrs. Wm. Chase, time: 2 hours Attended school meeting. Collected $8.86 by subscription for the library.
Mar 15, 16, 17, 18 Worked all day for Robert S Chase.
Mar 19 Worked ½ day for Robert S Chase, finished. 4 ½ days. Paid. Went to the City.
Mar 20 Sett 3 hens in the old henhouse on 15 eggs apiece. April 10 these hens hatched out 28 chicks, 13 bad eggs, 3 broken and 1 dead chick.
Mar 21 Went down to Dr. Benj. Green’s
Mar 22 Went down to Dr. Benj. Green’s. Had the horse shod.
Mar 24 Worked 8 hours for Steven P Weaver
Mar 26 Took up carpet in the hall and put it down again. Sett a hen on 13 Leghorn eggs (April 16) Hen #12 brought off 12 chicks, 1 died.
Mar 28, 29 Worked all day at Daniel’s. Sett hen #18 on 15 eggs, will come off Apr 19.
This hen brought off 11 chicks: left 3 bad eggs and broke 1.
Mar 30 Worked all day at Daniel’s.
Mar 31 Shelled out some corn, took down chimney.

Apr 1 Went for the Dr. for Sallie
Apr 2 Worked ½ day at Daniel’s. Sett hen on 15 eggs, 12 of them Leghorns, will come off April 23. This hen brought off 12 chicks, 9 of them Leghorns, one died in the shell.

Apr 4 Went to the City. Afternoon worked on the garden.
Apr 5 Worked all day at George R. Chase’s repairing slauterhouse floor. Paid.
Apr 7 Made step for Wm. Chase: hard pine .65, white pine .50, 3 hours time .60, spruce joist .12, nails, paint & putty .13 Total $2.00
Apr 8 Took up parlor carpet. Set out some gooseberry bushes
Apr 9 Sett hen on 16 eggs, will come off last day of April. Worked ½ day for Father making steps. This hen brought off 13 chicks: left 2 bad eggs and 1 dead chick
Apr 12, 13 Worked all day at G W Chase’s, painting blinds

May 12 Two hens on 30 eggs came off today. hatched out 22 chicks, 3 dead, 3 bad eggs, and 2 broke.
