CLAIR (CLEAR, CLARE), William CLARE, Latham Seeking info on anc., William Clear, according to Census, was born in RI in 1790. Researching the LDS IGI for RI, found a Latham Clare, a son, born to a Samuel Clare, in Jamestown, Newport, RI, 12Feb1721. Wondering if there is more info on this family, that may show William as a descendant. A William Henry Clare appears in Tiverton in 1884, so if he is linked to the other, they may have been around there awhile. My anc., Wm. married a Mary SAUNDERS, from Westerly, RI, not sure when or where, but her family apparently had been around Westerly for several generations.

Richard PEARCE (b. 1590 England d. Oct 7 1656 Portsmouth) m. Martha - (b. abt 1585 m. 1615 England d. abt 1632). Book by Col. Frederick Pearce indicates that they came to America on the ship Lyon, of which Richard's brother William PIERCE was the Master. I am looking for any information on their coming to America and settling in the Portsmouth area, possibly on Prudence Island. Richard and Martha's children: Richard (b. 1615 in ? England d. Oct 28 1678 in Portsmouth m. Susannah Wright (b. abt Aug 5 1627 in Waltham Abbey, England m. May 5 1642 in Waltham Abbey d. 1678 in Portsmouth), John (b. 1617 in Bristol? England), Mary (abt 1617), Samuel (abt 1620), etc. Richard PEARCE and Susannah WRIGHT came to Portsmouth - did they come with Richard PEARCE Sr.? where did they settle? The first record I have been able to personally verify is the marriage of their son, George PEARCE (b. 1662 Portsmouth d. Sept 3 1752) to Alice HART (b. 1669 Portsmouth) on April 7 1687 in Portsmouth. This is recorded on p. 30 in the first book of Births Deaths and Marriages at the Portsmouth Town Clerk, as is the birth of their first child Susanna. This register does not record the birth of the parents George and Alice. George and Alice had several children, including George (b. Mar 2 1696 in Little Compton d. Feb 22 1764) m. Deborah SEARLES (b. Nov 17 1695 Little Compton) on Feb 20 1717. They had several children, including Richard PEARCE (b. Apr 19 1736 d. Mar 15 1817 Tiverton) m. Phebe SEABURY (b. Mar 1 1743 Little Compton m. Nov 14 1765 Tiverton). I am looking for information on the children of Richard and Phebe. I understand they had a son John (b. 1777 in RI) who moved to Canada, but am unaware of other children. Much of the foregoing comes from the Wilbur book of Little Compton Families, but I am looking to corroborate and extend the knowledge.
