I am searching for my ggg grandfather, Oliver ARMSTRONG. From what I have found he lived in Jamestown,Rhode Island, and was married to Elizabeth HAMMOND. They were probably married in about 1785 with the firts child, Benjamin born 1786 then 10 more as follows. William 1788 (my ancestor), John 1790, Oliver 1792, Eliza 1994, Arnold 1796, Sara 1799, Mercy 1801, Thomas 1803, Harriet 1805, and Daniel 1807. I found some LDS records from the 1930's, but nothing else. I think Oliver ARMSTRONG may have been in the Revolutionray War, but have found only a name listed in the records of South Kingston. Can anyone tell me if land records exixt for this time period, and if so, where I could find them. I further think the family had moved to Tolland County CT. by 1810. Thanks for any information or pointers that anyone could give me.

I am trying to track down information on two PAUL families that lived in Newport in the early 1700s. A 1714 will of William PAUL, a sailor, lists his wife as Penelope (probably GOULDING). Penelope PAUL, wife of William PAUL died 31 August 1732 in her 52nd year, and is buried in the Arnold Cemetary in Newport. (Penelope GOULDING was a descendant of Gov. Benedict ARNOLD.) A William PAUL was born in 1714/15, probably to William and Penelope, in Newport; he became a prominent citizen. A Mary PAUL was born about 1720, probably to the same couple. Newport Town records also list Joshua PAUL married Sarah SANFORD Mar 31, 1726. Sarah PAUL, daughter of Joshua and Sarah PAUL, born circa 1727. Joseph PAUL, son of Joshua and Sarah PAUL, died Nov 11, 1750. Joshua PAUL married Judith PIKE, Nov 4, 1750. Sarah PAUL married Uzziah WILBUR Nov 11, 1756. The 1774 Rhode Island Census lists in Newport: William PAUL, 2 males over 16, one male under 16, and 3 females over 16 (presumably the William PAUL born 1714/15). Also Joshua PAUL, one male over 16, 3 males under 16, 2 females over 16, one female under 16. I would be interesting in corresponding with anyone interested in any of these families, or with information on them. I suspect my ancestor Henry PAUL, who lived in Guilford, VT in the 1790 and 1800 censuses, and then moved to Day, Saratoga County, NY, may have been one of the boys under 16 in the Joshua PAUL household in 1774, because he named a son Joshua and had another son Arnold PAUL born in RI. I have other links to the William PAUL family.

I am trying to find proof that Mary (unknown) who md. William WODELL, ca 1639, was Mary LAWTON sister of Thomas Lawton of Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Thomas Lawton's birth is recorded in the records of Cranfield, Bedfordshire, England, as was a sister Mary Lawton, and also William Wodell. There was a close relationship between William Wodell & Thomas Lawton. Most records just give Wodell's wife's name as Mary, a few name her as Mary Lawton, which I am trying to find proof of. Some records say that William Wodell & wife Mary were md. in Portsmouth, RI, but the Town Clerk does not have any mg. record for them.
