I am searching for an ancestor that would have come to Rhode Island during the 1780-1781 period. He would have been with the French when they assisted the colonies during the Revolutionary war. His name ultimately became Antonio SEPARK but possibly was different at that time as it was changed. It has been spelled SEPARK(E), SUBPARKE, SOUPARK, SUPARKE, LEPARK(E, LUPARK(E), etc. Antonio was born in Corsica and probably became a part of the French navy either in France or the West Indies. If anyone knows the history of the French in Rhode Island during this time, or has any information on our name, we would be most grateful. Thank you, Barbara "Separk" Reinking

I am the third great-granddaughter of Desire TRIM, who was born in Rhode Island, New Shoreham, Newport County (Block Island?) in 1783. I am trying to establish the names of her parents. Her family moved to Islesboro, Maine sometime after Desire's birth. In Islesboro, Desire married Samuel MCCURDY, and they moved to Oak Bay, St. David's, New Brunswick. Samuel was lost at sea in 1810, and later Desire married Sargent TOWLE in Oak Bay, NB. They were the parents of John Cramer Towle, who had a daughter named Isabella Desire Towle who married Joseph Robert HUGHES of Beaverton, Michigan; they had a daughter named Beatrice Elizabeth Hughes who married Royal Bird MCKIBBIN; they had a son named Hugh Robert McKibbin, who married Eleanor Virginia FLANAGAN, and they were my parents. I am hoping to trace Desire Trim (McCurdy, Towle's) lineage. Desire's father might have been Godfrey Trim, but I am not sure about that. Godfrey Sr was married to Mary Rose. Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Am looking for a Mary GALLAGHER, GALLEGAR,or GALLEGHAR that was born 1850-51 in Rhode Island. I got this date from her marriage liscense in IL. It states that her father William GALLAGHER of NY gave authority to David MURPHY to give consent for her to marry. On the 1870 Census in IL it states that she was born in RI. I looked in the 1860 Census of RI index to look for a William GALLAGHER and found only one in Newport that had a daughter, Mary, the right age. It's a Willima GALLEGAR married to Susan. I couldn't find them in 1850 Census. Any ideas? Thanks, Ethel

Am looking for info on a family of William and Susan GALLAGHER that appears on the Newport, RI Census of 1860. Their oldest daughter, Mary, 9yo shows as being born in RI. Does anyone know what Catholic Church was in Newport in 1850 or 51 that might have christening records. Other children are : John 7; Francis 6; Eliza 4; Catherine 2. There is also Margaret RYAN, posibly the M-in-L living with them 60yo. Maybe the church would have a death certificate for her after 1860. Thanks for any help.

I have been under the impression, based on books such as "Dennisania", and others research that the first DENNIS in America was Robert DENNIS, the master of the ship "True Love", who arrived at Tiverton, Rhode Island in 1635. I have now been presented with information that shows a William DENNIS, who was born in 1595 in England had a son named Robert born in Yarmouth, Mass., in 1617. I would appreciate any information that can verify, clarify or refute this new information. Thank you.
