I am a researcher/historian in need of information concerning the GIBBS family of Rhode Island. I am specifically interested in obtaining information regarding the genealogy of the General Alfred GIBBS (April 22, 1823 - December 26, 1868) family of Newport County. His wife was Peggy Forshee BLAIR (1831-1908)and of this union were born two sons John Blair GIBBS (September 25, 1858-June 12, 1898) and Alfred W.GIBBS ( ? - May 9, 1922). Robert M. Pendleton

I have in my possession a label from my Great Grandfather, Eugene MERIER b. 1830 in France as follows: "E. MERIER, Vegetable & Medicinal French Aromatic Bitters Prepared from genuine Herbs and Roots Newport, Rhode Island". To the best of my knowledge this would have been around the 1860's. I am looking for the marriage record of James Arthur FITZSIMMONS and Evelyn DAWSON. They were living in Newport in 1954. Sometime between 1950 and 1954 they were married. James was an art critic, son of Patrick James and Florence (RICE) FITZSIMMONS. Evelyn was a dress fashion designer for Suzy Perette of NYC and was born in New Jersey. No more is known of Evelyn.
