This mailing list is for discussions with others who are researching their Rhode Island ancestry, or who have other genealogical or historical interests in the state of Rhode Island. You can
subscribe or unsubscribe using the easy form.
Check out the Rhode Island USGenWeb State Message Board
Here you will find messages relating to those ancestors that moved from county to county or if you do not know which county they lived in. They will also let you know if others are researching the same lines as you, along with their email address. This is where the messages that did not specify a county in Rhode Island should be posted.
Like all other Rhode Island Counties, we have decided to stop posting new queries and link instead to message boards where you can post your own messages at your convenience. The archived queries will remain online.
Providence County Message Board

Queries are designed to be posted on line so that others who are researching in the same state and county as you may read them and will be able to make contact with you if they have an interest in your query.
Like all other Rhode Island Counties, we have decided to stop posting new queries in the old query system, so we link instead to message boards where you can post your own messages at your convenience. The archived queries will remain online.

A Few Rules Before you request a Lookup from a book:
Lookup requests should be limited to one name, or perhaps two if it is a married couple. Information given will be limited. For example if it is a cemetery lookup, the information will be the name of the cemetery and the information on the headstone. Please do not ask for "everybody with X surname" or an entire family group, or for hard copies to be mailed; the volunteers have been asked not to comply with such requests. Please make your requests as specific as possible (first name, last name, known dates, etc.). Include the name of the book and county in your request. Click on the link at the end of each section to send a request.
Volunteers have been advised to comply with U.S. copyright laws.
The USGenWeb copyright policy statement applying to all lookups may be reviewed at: http://www.usgenweb.org/volunteers/copyright.html

After you get a reply to a Lookup Request:
