Information:
Samuel J. Rutledge b. 1780 Wilkes Co., NC married Bethia R. Carter in
Maury Co., TN 26 Dec. 1823. Samuel Rutledge d. 1855 in Wayne Co., TN. He
is in all probability the son of William Rutledge of Carlisle, PA and
early Rowan Co., NC. I am a descendant of Samuel J. through his daughter,
Frances Caroline Rutledge who married Andrew Jackson Roberts and his son,
Robert Gideon Rutledge who married Sarah Angeline Keaton. John Oran
Roberts, son of Frances C. Rutledge and Andrew J. Roberts, married his
first cousin, Matilda Ann Rutledge, the dau. of Robert G. Rutledge and
Sarah A. Keaton. John Roberts and Matilda Rutledge were married 27 Feb
1878 in Wayne Co., TN and a short time later the families left Wayne Co.
for TX,; first settling in Wise Co. and then Hill and Johnson Co. Frances
Caroline Rutledge is buried in Crawford Co., AR and Matilda Ann is buried
at Durden, Hill Co., TX. |
