| Oakfield belonged to Charles Johnston, Esqr., of Charleston, who built the large and imposing but rather incommodious house. His daughter, Marion, marrying Peter Porcher, son of Philip Parcher of the Oldfield. it became his residere; and after his death was occupied successively by his sons Dr. Peter Porcher of Charleston and Philip Johnston Porcher. The latter sold it to Dr. Morton Waring. After Dr. Waring left it for Chelsea, it changed hands frequently and the house went to ruin. |
