Vilma Chambless Keating, 81, of Goose Creek, SC, a retired helicopter inspector, died Aug. 18, 2006, in a North Charleston hospital. The funeral was held 2:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the graveside in the Beaufort National Cemetery. Interment followed directed by Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. Mrs. Keating was born Oct. 4, 1924, in Emmett, Ark., a daughter of Lester Lee Chambless and Sarah Annemarie Semons Chambless. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Toastmistress, Order of the Rebecca, and the Daughters of the Nile. Surviving are a daughter, Annette Ditto of Goose Creek; a son, Robert E. Foster of Broken Arrown, Ok.; a sister, Sammy Gail Paige of Texas; two brothers, Tommy Don Chambless of Huntsville, Texas, and Billy Britten Chambless of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Alma Welch Keller, 80, of St. Stephen, SC, a former employee of Albany Felt and the American Tobacco Company, died Friday at her residence. The funeral will be 3:00 PM this Saturday afternoon, March 4, 2006, in the Russellville Christian Church. Interment will follow in the St. Stephen Baptist Cemetery. Abbot Francis Kline, 57, died Aug. 27, 2006 at his home at Mepkin Abbey after a long illness. Born Joseph Paul Kline III in Philadelphia, Penn., he was the son of Joseph P. Kline and Vanetta Hiltner Kline of Brigantine, NJ.During his time as Abbot, Mepkin celebrated four solemn professions and received numerous men in other stages of formation. Mepkin also accepted Nuestra Senora de la Esperanza, a community of Trappistine nuns in Equador, as a daughter house. With the support of many friends and benefactors, Mepkin built a new church, the Clare Boothe Luce Library and Conference Center, a senior wing for aging monks, and renovated the monks' kitchen, refectory and guests' refectory, and the administration building. In addition to his parents, Fr. Francis is survived by two brothers, Ronald Kline and his wife Carlene of Rochester, NY, and Mark Kline and his wife Kathy of Marlton, NJ, and six nieces and nephews.A memorial service was held in the Luce Gardens at Mepkin Abbey on Aug. 31 at 5 p.m.

Benjamin Way Knight, 89, of Moncks Corner, a retired pulp preparation supervisor with Westvaco, died Sunday (Nov 18) at a Charleston hospital. The funeral will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the First Christian Church of Moncks Corner. Burial, directed by RUSSELL FUNERAL CHAPEL, will be in St. John's Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Knight was born October 25, 1912, in Ridgeville, S.C., a son of Paul W. Knight and Martha Vaughn Knight. He was a former Moncks Corner Town Council Member. Gloria Jubar Knight of Hempstead, NY died Aug. 2, 2006, at her residence. Funeral services were held Aug. 10 at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, North Charleston, SC with the Rev. Dr. Augustus D. Robinson, Jr. and Rev. Leroy Mars officiating. Burial, directed by Gethers Funeral Home, Inc., was in Westview Cemetery, Moncks Corner, SC. Mrs. Knight was born April 23, 1956, in Beford, NY, daughter of Harry Jubar, Jr. and Joan Arce.She was a 1973 graduate of Westbury High School. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Church, Queens, NY. She was employed for Glory House Recovery, Inc. She was also a member of the NAACPP where she was an advocate for fair housing and mentally ill adults. Gloria also served as a committee chairperson the Democratic Party. Survivors include two children, Kelly Knight and Jubar Parish Knight; her father, Harry Jubar (Pamela); seven sisters, Sabah Luqman, Renita Wright (Jeff), Muriel Jubar, Harolyn Atkinson (Raymond), Ramona Jubar, Tuletia Rivens (Antwan), Sonya Carter (Charles); four brothers, Dwayne Jubar, Harry Jubar III, Stefon Jubar and Sean Jubar.

Funeral services for Howard F. Knight were held at Church of the Holy Communion on April 27, 2006. Interment was at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Mr. Knight died April 24, 2006. He was 88. Mr. Knight was born Jan. 31, 1918 in Summerville, the son of Frederick Loyles Knight and Ernestine Virginia Knight Knight. He was a graduate of Summerville High School and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired as an insurance agent with Liberty Life Insurance Company. He was a member of Church of the Holy Communion, Twice Past Master of Mariners Lodge #2 (formerly known as La Condeur Lodge), 33rd Degree Scottish Rite, Assistant Director of Work Emiritus, York Rite, York Rite College in Charleston, Scottish Rite, Demolay Advisor, Past Jr. Grand Steward of The Grand Lodge of S.C., Omar Shrine Temple, and Loyalty Chapter of Eastern Star. He is survived by two daughters: Rebecca Gail Tramel and her husband Doug of Jackson, MS and Lillian Tisdale and her husband Noot of Savannah, Ga.; two sisters, Virginia Caldwell, and Alice Isehower, both of Charleston; seven grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. Mr. Knight was predeceased by his wife, Hallie Vye Paddon.
