of
Prince George Winyaw
June 11th, 1741
[In the column left – Petn. of the Inhabts. of Prince George Winyaw read]
Read the following Petition of the Vestry Church members and other of the inhabitants of Prince George Winyaw to his Honour the Lieut. Gov. in the words following viz:
To the Honble. William Bull Esqr. Lieut. Govr. & Commdr. in Chief in and over his Majestys Council To the Honble. Benjamin Whitaker Esqr. Speaker and the Rest of the Honble. Members of the Commons House of Assembly.
The hunble Petition of the the Vestry Churchwardens and other of the inhabitants of Prince George Winyah.
Sheweth: That pursuant to an act passed the 9th of April 1734 the dividing line between the Parish of Prince George and Prince Frederick is run to Pedee River and by another act passed the 29th of March 1735, the said line is directed to be continued in a north course to the province line.
[In the column left – Sets forth the dividings of ye Parish as by an act of ye 9th April 1734 & 29th March 1735]
That if the line be continued as is directed by the said law it will divide a long and narrow neck of land lying between Great Pedee & Little Pedee River and will run a great part of the way in one or the other of the river swamps which will be very difficult if not impracticable as well as expensive to the publick and also very inconvenient to the Inhabitants lying on the said neck in regard to the working on publick roads and their musters.
[In the column left – that by ye sd. Law it will divide a neck of land between Great Pedee & Little Pedee & will run into the river swamps – Impracticable to settle & very inconvenient in regard to musters or working on ye road]
That your petitioners begs leave to observe by our Honours that the River Little Pedee is much broke and divided with large branches and lakes and a very uncertain unnavigable channel it may admit of dispute on distinguishing the River from the lakes or branches We therefore humbly conceive Little Pedee very improper for a dividing boundary.
[In the column left – Little Pedee much broke and divided- a very uncertain & unnavagable channel. Ye settling ye boundaries will admit of great dispute. Prince George Parish bounded. Prince Frederick maybe extended.]
That the Parish of Prince George is bounded on every side and can’t be enlarged. Prince Frederick may be extended westward to the West line of the Province.
Wherefore your Petitioners humbly pray your Honrs. to give leave to bring in a Bill to make Great Pedee River from the place the lien is already run to upwards the boundary of the Parishes of Prince George and Prince Frederick. And your Petitioners shall ever pray & c.

Petition of the vestry Churchwardens & Inhabitants
of
Prince Fredericks Parish
June 11th, 1741
Read also the Petition of the vestry Churchwardens & Inhabitants of Prince Fredericks Parish in the words following viz:
May it please your Honble. Winyah June 11th, 1741
To permit us the vestry Churchwardens & Inhabitants of Prince Fredericks Parish in obedience to the request of the Honble. Board of Church Commrs. dated the 22nd ult: /to lay before you our thoughts on the proprosal made to your Honrs. by Maj. George Pawley about the dividing line between the Parishes of Prince Frederick & Prince George. We have maturely considered of the same and of the many disadvantages that would accrue not only to the Inhabitants residing between the two Rivers called Great and Little Pedee but also to the Parish in Genl. if Mr. Pawley’s request should be granted viz: to make Great Pedee the Boundary.
[In the column left – different from the sd. Pawley’s opinion]
We therefore humbly beg leave to dissent from said Pawleys opinions and submissively offer our reasons.
That the Inhabitants residing between the said Rivers are 12 miles & upwards nearer to our Parish Church than to Geo:town.
Secondly. That the major part of the above sd. Inhabitants must go through our Parish and pass by our Church to publick worship & other religious dutys and other offices to George Town.
Thirdly./. That the said Inhabitants humbly prays to be included in Prince Fredericks Parish.
Fourthly./. That the Township of Queensborough is laid on both sides of Great Pedee River.
Fifthly./. That whenever the Legislature shall be pleased to ____ the Townships of Queensborough and Williamsburg into separate Parishes this of Prince Frederick being the oldest Parish from which Prince George was divided will be confined to narrow limits and consequently forever remain one of the smallest (if not poorer) parishes in the Province of so valuable a branches that of Pedee be taken from it. We further presume to acquaint your Hon. that the north line appointed by Act of Assembly to be run from John Boggs Plantation on Black River was supposed and intended by our Representative to make Pedee River at or below the Plantation Yewheany belonging to Mr. Percival Pawley about 8 miles distant from said Boggs Plantation but we now find that a north course excludes from this Parish sundry familys residing on Pedee River near the line as it is now marked. Who constantly attend divine service in this Parish being about 12 miles distant from our Church and at least 22 miles from Georgetown.
We therefore most humbly pray your Hons. & the Honble. Board of church Commrs. to take the premises into consideration and relieve the Parish and the above sd. Inhabitants by ordering the dividing line to be run on a straight course which shall be done on our own proper charges from the Plantation formerly belonging to John Boggs decd. on Black River to the Plantation called Yewheany belonging to Mr. Percival Pawley on Pedee River both inclusive in Prince George Parish and from the said Yewheany that Pedee River be the boundary to the mouth of Little Pedee River which is about 5 miles above said Yewheany & that Little Pedee River and the main branch thereof be the natural bounds up to the province line.
All which we humbly submit to your Honours well known candor and impartiallity for determination and with all due submission crave leave to subscribe ourselves.
Your Honours Most obedient and most humble servants
