He married Mary Elizabeth Booth in 1797, and they had the following children, all born in Edgefield County: Elizabeth b.27Feb1799, Absolum b.16Jun1801, Michael b.30Jul1803, Elijah b.03Apr1805, Pamelia b.04Feb1807, Samuel Savage b.20Feb1809, Sarah Ann b.06Mar1811, Mary E. b.26Feb1813, James Booth b.10Oct1815, and Maria b.21Feb1819. Absolum b.1801 is my gg-grandfather. Also Absolum's oldest son, Elijah Washington Horne (1829-1883), a Baptist Minister, remained in what was then Edgefield County, and is buried in Ridge Spring Cemetery. After several years of research, I believe the father Elijah Horne moved originally from Edgecombe County, NC, but have not been able to confirm this yet.

Ancestor:Jesse Scruggs, first colonial land grants about 1768 at Reedy River. Lieutenant in Rev War for Edgefield District. Bought land near town of Edgefield. 1790 and 1800 Census. We know his two sons and two daughters: wife was Easter or Hester. His son, Matt Scruggs married Mary Elam d/o of John Elam of Edgefield Co. Family group relocated about 1807 to Cape Girardeau, Co, MO. Jesse probably died there. We assume he came from Virginia but I wonder if he was a son of William Seruggs of Camden,SC (Landowner, 1755) Many other Scruggs came to South Carolina but we have no firm family connections. I do not believe he is the Jesse Scruggs of Augusta, Georgia who lived about that time nor do I have any belief that he is the Jesse Scruggs of the Dunklin Book born 1747. I do believe that he came down in a family group and that he has relatives married into local families but I have never found any marriages. I am interested in all South Carolina Scruggs before 1800. I'm a member of the Scruggs Family Association and would be happy to correspond about it.

My great-grandfather was John Thomas Taylor, born Edgefield 04/12/1854 and died 07/24/1933, location unknown. Have not been able to locate his death certificate, but he is buried in Graniteville Cementery. Old Posey's Funeral Home has record of his funeral, but no other information. He was active in the Graniteville Baptist Church and was known As Deacon Thomas Taylor. He was first married to Addie Barton, second to Mary/Mamie Wise (my great-grandmother) and third to Widow Nannie Hallman. I have not been able to factually identify parents or siblings, but have been told Joseph Winfrey Taylor, born 06/24/1846 was his brother. If true, his parents might have been Mack Taylor and Susie Jones. They are on Joseph Winfrey's death certificate. His children were: Emmie Lee, Edwin Valet, Otto, Thomas Curry, Howell Burts, Elfreda (my grandmother), Netta, Rupert W., Victor Patrick, Joseph Jackson and Wilbur Lewis Taylor. Would lke to get any leads on connections to this family. Taylor's as well as Wise. Because of some of his son's names, I think there might be a connection to surnames of Curry, Howell and Lewis. John appeared as John TAYLOR on the 1790 Caswell, NC census, along with his father, who was also misrecorded or transcribed as TAYLOR (Joseph TRAYLOR was recorded in court records and on the 1784 Tax List there, and I am sure these are the same two men in 1790.) John's sister and brother-in-law, William and Martha Traylor HOWERTON moved to Edgefield about 1802 so (William's brother d. in Edgefield in 1805.) In 1819, William HOWERTON died, and Martha and William's son, Joel HOWERTON sold his father's land to John TRAYLOR before moving out to Alabama. Any help with these families (who were tied to the CURRY & ROPER families of this county)would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Pam Pam Stone 2905 Pembrooke Road, Titusville, FL 32796-2307

Drury Mims-There seems to be conflicting information regarding this name. There are several listings on the regarding Drury. Does anyone one know if there were two Drury Mims 1730-1818? Was there more than one Mims/Mimms family? One Drury Mims has a father listed as David Mims and mother as Agnes Weldy, another has the father as Shadrack Mims, and mother as Elizabeth Woodson. One Drury Mims born c 1748 has father as Joseph Mims and Mother as Sussanah(Mims). One Drury Mimms has father as Thomas Mimms, Jr and mother as Anna Nelly Martin. If you have tracked these men and their descendants, please share with me and the whole list. The Drury descendants from which I descend married James Ware and came to Twiggs County Georgia. I have both of their toombstones in Twiggs County Georgia. If your information comes from a book-"Wilder-Ware' book,(can't remember the exact title at the moment)there are some errors in it. ROBINSON/RAYMOND/FELL. Seeking descendants of John Robinson Sr. and his wife Lucy Fell who moved from Fell's Point in Maryland to Edgefield District, S.C. prior to the American Revolution. After John Sr. died, his widow Lucy married a Mr. Maury and moved to Pennsylvania with some of the Robinson children: William, Jeremiah, and James. The son John Robinson Jr. remained in Edgefield. John Jr. later (ca.1807- 1808) moved to Mississippi settling in Claiborne County. He died there 10 October 1808. We know that John Robinson Jr. married Mary Raymond in Edgefield. (Mary died in Edgefield October 1799 and John Jr. married a 2nd time to Sarah Bassett Edwards.) I have a list and birthdates of the children of John Robinson, Jr. (children by both wives) taken from his Bible that was carried to Mississippi when he migrated there. I believe my gg- grandfather may have been a descendant of John Robinson Jr. My gg-grandfather was William Osmus Robinson born in 1825 in Morgan County, Georgia. He had a son, W.O. Robinson who named one of his sons Raymond Robinson. I know of no other direction in the family that would have the name Raymond in it. I would be interested in any information that might shed light on the family name of ROBINSON OR RAYMOND that originates from the Edgefield District of S.C. I would especially be interested in the family of William Fell Robinson (b. 1 December 1785) who married Eliza Hutchinson. William Fell Robinson was a son of John Robinson, Jr.,who may have moved to Georgia. Names of all the children of John Robinson,Jr. and Mary Raymond are: Rebecca b. 1766 married Henry Tillman; Elizabeth b. 1768 m. Joel Bassie or Dossie; Raymond Robinson b. 1771 m. Hannah B. Hicks in MS; John Robinson III b. 1773 m. Nancy Collins dau. of Moses Collins; James b. 1776 m. Betsy Bugg moved to Alabama; Mary b. 1780 w.1st William Knight 2nd ____Fell; Jeremiah b. 1783 d. as a child in Edgefield; William Fell Robinson b. 1785 m. Eliza Hutchinson; Lucy b. 1788 m. James Johns in MS; Benjamin b. 1790 m.Lavina Taylor; Nancy b. 1794 m. Elijah Clark. The following children were born to 2nd wife Sarah Bassett Edwards Robinson: Twins: Jeremiah Smith Robinson b. 1807 and Alfred Bassett Robinson b. 1807. Sarah Bassett Edwards Robinson also had a daughter from her 1st marriage to James Edwards--her name was Sara Edwards and she m. Samuel E. Davis in Mississippi. Anyone wanting more information on this family, I refer to The Leonardo Andrea Collection on Microfilm. It contains the lifetime genealogical notes of this famous genealogist of the 1940-50 era. Many libraries and archives have this collection. I viewed it at the Alabama Room in Calhoun Co. Library in Anniston, Alabama. It is also at the Georgia State Archives in Atlanta, Georgia.

Seeking credible leads to documentation re: the estate of BENJAMIN TUTT who married BARBARA STALNAKER. Benjamin was my 5G Grandfather and was a prominent citizen of Edgefield Co. from 1768 until his death in April 1790. I have seen unsourced references to a will dated 7 Sept 1790, but I have not been able to find any will for Benjamin. In fact, there may be no will because the unsourced material goes on to name Benjamin's brother, GABRIEL TUTT, and son-in-law, EDMUND MARTIN as "administrators" of the estate rather than "executors" as would be the case if there was a will. The 7 Sept 1790 may have been the date Letters of Administration were requested or granted, or perhaps it is the date when an estate inventory was ordered. Reportedly, the widow and son-in-law purchased from the estate on 15 June 1791. Such specific information suggests that there are official records regarding the estate somewhere, but I cannot find them. Any help will be deeply appreciated. Looking for BOWIE families in SC (probably not the well-known one in Abbeville). An L.W. Bowie appears in the Edgefield 1830 census. I would like to know who he was. A John Bowie is also listed in the Old 96th District 1779. My Bowies were in SC (location unknown) from at least 1815 to 1830, then children and mother moved to Lauderdale Co., AL without father, by 1840. Mother's name Margaret, b.c. 1797 SC; children Charles Wesley, Thomas P. and five girls. Please contact me if you have any information on any SC Bowie families or have capability to do lookups or research in archives that aren't on internet. Thanks very much. Dan Collins

Researching the surname Vessels. Looking for Thomas Vessels who was in Burke County in 1809, believe before that he may have been in Effingham County. He married Sivility Hurse (Hearn or Hurst), I am not sure of the last name for Sibility, although old Bible and diary records record it as Hurse.

Looking for ancestors of Burrell T Vann my great grandfather. Was listed in old Cass County GA census of 1830 and reportedly was from South Carolina. If the name Burrell T Vann can be associated with any Vanns on early SC census or any type records prior to 1830 would appreciate the information. He possibly came from the Old 96th D., SC. Have found an Edward and John Vann listed in the 1779 census for the Old 96th but nothing to relate to Burrell. Given name is somewhat unusual and could have been given in respect to close family friends.

I am researching Duncan Campbell who lived in Campbellton and died in 1796. His wife's name was Mary. His children were William, Isabella who married Obediah L. Cann, John, Jesse, Mary Polly who married Howell L. Smith, Sally who married Thomas Graves, Enos who married Jane Evatt, and Elinor. I am looking for all the information I can obtain on the town of Campbellton. The Exe. of his will was George Leslie. He also died in 1798 or 1799. I do beleive William died in 1847. Any information on these people would be of great help. Thank you. Please e-mail me at:
