I am looking for S. E. or S. Enoch or Enoch Jennings. All I know is he was born in SC about 1828, married Mary Ann Lee, moved to Habersham Co. GA (there in 1850, 1860 census) He was close to an Asa and Jane Spencer Keeling Jennings in those two censuses. Two of Enoch's and Mary's children lived with Asa's daughter Sarah and her husband, Littleton Collins, in 1870. I think Enoch may be from Edgefield Co. but I am not sure. Has anyone come across him or anyone who may be him? He is my gggrandfather.

I know this family, at one time, lived in Johnston, Edgefield County, Because Asberry's son, William (Bill) Carlisle Smith was born on June 2, 1923, in Johnston. Asberry and Mamie died in William's younger years. Asberry was a shoemaker, therefore probibly moved around all of his life. If anyone can help me or would be willing to do some research for me, I would be very greatfull. There are so many Smith's that it is hard to find out about a lesser known one. Thanks!

I can find them listed with several children in the 1850 Edgefield Co census, and by 1860 they had moved to Arkansas. However, I cannot find Simpson prior to 1850. I do not know who his parents were. The 1840 Edgefield Co census lists a George Rhoden as head of household. The household members include a male between 20-30 (which could be Simpson) and a female between 15-20 (which could be his wife Eliza). William HOWERTON & Martha TRAYLOR moved to Edgefield, SC sometime about 1800, where William died in 1819. Martha and her eldest son, Joel HOWERTON sold their Edgefield property on Stevens [Stephens?] Creek adjacent Covington HARDY, Leroy COVINGTON and Lewis CURRY to John TRAYLOR. William HOWERTON's brother, James HOWERTON, d. in Edgefield in 1805, leaving his estate to be divided between the children of his deceased sister, Nancy Howerton PHENIX [PINNIX, PHEONIX] and two of William & Martha Traylor HOWERTON's children, including Joel. Other surnames closely associated with this family in both VA & SC were ROPER and QUARLES [or QUALLS.] The Howertons & Traylors & Ropers were in Brunswick Co., VA and Caswell Co., NC before SC. The Howertons, and perhaps the Ropers, moved on to AL & then MS; the Currys and the Quarles appear to have remained in Edgefield and other parts of SC. I am not sure of the relationship of the COVINGTON men to any of the others, although the Howertons and Covingtons started out together in Essex Co., VA, and Covington HARDY may be the same man as the one found in the Lunenburg Tithe lists in the 1770's. I am currently compiling a list of burial sites for Civil War soldiers buried within South Carolina. I have a rather extensive database now and I would like to add more. If anyone has any information on where soldiers may be buried within the state, please email me at one of the two addresses below so I can add them to my list. I eventually want to compile the entire state. I would be glad to share all of the information. Email addresses: Information needed... *name (rank if possible) *birth and death date (if possible) *unit (if possible) *where died (if possible) and any other information on the stones or around the gravesite. (I.E. confederate iron cross, goverment marker or broken marker with condition of it) I would like to replace any broken or missing markers with new goverment ones. I just need to get the information. Sincerely, Gerald Grant Mishoe

Looking to add more descendants to my Brooks line who resided in Edgefield County, SC from 1780s to the 1830s. Jordan Brooks, my direct ancestor, resided in Edgefield County from ca. 1780 to ca. 1810. I have about 5,000 of his descendants published at my web site and published a 400 page book on his descendants in 1982. His sister, Lucy Brooks, married Daniel Baugh and they briefly lived in Edgefield County for around 10 or 15 years and his line settled in Putnam and Talbot Counties in Georgia. Jordan's brother, Robert Rose Brooks lived for about 30 years in Edgefield County and his descendants settled in Pike, Butler, Escambia and Baldwin Counties in Alabama. Jordan's sister, Winifred Brooks, married James Butler and many of their descendants remained in Edgefield County into the 1880s and later. Jordan's sister, Sarah Brooks, married Blumer White and lived in Edgefield County and another sister, Mary Brooks, married Burgess White and lived in Edgefield County. I am the son of James William Thompson, Jr. His mother was Anna Butler and his father was James William Thompson, Sr. The Thompsons originated in the Brunswick County, N.C. area. Anna Butler was the sister of Mary Devore Butler and Catherine Randolph Butler. Anna Butler lived at "Hillcrest", the Butler family home, located in the Edgefield, S.C. area. The name "Prescott" also appears in the ancestral line, but I'm not sure just how. There was a judge named "Devore" who lived in the area also. I am interested in how the Butler and Devore and Prescott names "fit in" to my ancestry.

Thomas Edwin Corley (June 22, 1893-March 09, 1983) married to Reba Corley Corley(March 29, 1889-May 1986)(yes her maiden name was Corley, no incest i am her parents were James Wade Corley (October 26, 1851-May 10, 1937) and Amanda Catherine Seay (June 17, 1855-June 14, 1893). I have been unable to locate the parents of Amanda Catherine Seay and James Wade Corley. I have sifted through as many Corleys as I can find in Lexington where they lived, but there is no record of either of these 2 leading me to wonder if they moved from somewhere. Supposedly Reba Corley Corley was from a completely different Corley Clan than her husban Thomas Edwin Corley, who descended from Laurence Corley (Carle, Karle or Charles) from Switzerland or Germany. So I was thinking that Reba Corley Corley's parents may have moved into the Lexington area. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! :) april corley

According to the Biographical Directory of SC House of Representatives, Vol IV (1791-1815) Samuel Walker, Sr. represented Edgefield in the Twelfth General Assembly (1796-1797). He had land on Shaw's Creek and Beaverdam Creek. He was among the incorporators of Horn's Creek Baptist Church and was a Justice of the Peace for Edgefield (1801). This Samuel's wife was Martha Jefferson Bell, d.o. Benjamin Bell and his only son was Samuel Walker, Jr., who represented Edgefield in the Nineteenth (1810-1812) and Twentieth (1812-1813) General Assembly. Samuel, Jr. served as a militia major about 1812. He married Fanny Eddins, d.o. Benjamin Eddins. I'm hoping to find other researchers interested in these two Samuel Walkers. In particular I would like to trace their ancestors and to determine if or how they are linked to the other Samuel Walker who was in Edgefield at the time.
