Fairfield County's Part in
Gregg's (later McGowan's) Brigade
According to the intersection of these 2 sources:
(1) J. F. J. Caldwell's
The History of a Brigade of South Carolinians,
Known First as "Gregg's" and Subsequently as "McGowan's Brigade.",
Chapter 1, which says "The regiments which composed Gregg's brigade ...
were ...
| the 1st S.C. volunteers, | the 12th S.C. volunteers,
|
| the 13th S.C. volunteers, | the 14th S.C. volunteers,
|
| and Orr's regiment of rifles." |
(2) Of the above 5 infantry regiments we find the following on the
Confederate Monument in Winnsboro:
12TH S.C.V.I.
(on the west side)
13TH S.C.V.I.
(on the north side)
The History of a Brigade of South Carolinians,
Known First as "Gregg's" and
Subsequently as "McGowan's Brigade."
by J. F. J. Caldwell.
