Our 2010-2011 Projects

  • Thanksgiving collection of canned and boxed goods for Laurens Memorial Home.

  • Lap blankets for Christmas for veterans at NHC, Laurens.

  • Packaged snacks to be given to Hospice House of Laurens which they can in turn sell and keep the profits.

  • Paper products for the Laurens County Safe Home.

  • School supplies for the Laurens County Safe Home.

  • Valentines for residents of NHC.

Historian's Projects for UDC Year 2010-2011

  • Five Year Sesquicentennial Plan - Each year to have a theme. 2010-2011 is the Year of the Confederate Woman.

  • Speakers and field trips will center around each year's theme.

  • JB Kershaw Family Histories will be shared at December and April meetings.

  • Book sharing will take place at December and April meetings.

  • Five Year Sesquicentennial Plan - We will sponsor a 2nd semester essay contest for students in Laurens Districts 55 and 56 and Laurens Academy. The elementary contest will be for 3rd and 4th grade art and the theme will be "The Role of Women in the War Between the States." The middle school essay contest will be for 7th and 8th grade and will be based on the choice of 1 of 2 themes: either "The Causes of South Carolina's Secession from the Union" or "The Causes of the Firing on Fort Sumter." The high school essay contest will be for students of US History and will be based on the same theme choices as the middle school contest. All entries are due to the respective district office no later than 3 PM April 1, 2011. All entries will be judged and prizes will be awarded in the form of savings bonds.

  • Commorate and rededicate the Clinton Confederate Monument for its 100th birthday during Laurens County Confederate Memorial Day, May 2011.
