The Following are descriptions of the two main preservation activities of the Micah J. Jenkins Camps, that of Graves Registration and Monument Registration. While involved in several other activities these are our primary tasks towards ensuring that the Graves and Monuments to the Veterans of the War with Spain are properly cared for and preserved. Anyone wishing to help in these projects please contact the Camp President for more information as to what you can do to help. To obtain a copy of the forms mentioned in the descriptions contact the Camp President.
Graves Registration Project. As with most Heritage organizations (Sons of the American Revolution, of Confederate Veterans, of Union Veterans of the Civil War) our Fathers, Grandfathers, Great Grandfathers, etc.. are long since deceased. To see that there resting places are remembered this project was begun to attempt to locate and see to the care of the Graves of the Veterans of the Spanish American War, Philippine Insurrection, and China Relief Expedition, that lie buried within the states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. If you know of the location of the Grave of a Veteran of one of these conflicts and would like to notify us please contact the webmaster with the information that is listed in the form below. Don't worry if you don't have all of the information that is listed on the form. The list of the names assembled will be sent to the Spanish American War Gravesite Recording Project for online listing, and the written documentation will be kept in the Camp Archives for future reference. If you can include of photo of the Grave with the information that you send it would be greatly appreciated, as it will help gauge if the headstone should be replaced or repaired.
Monument Registration Project. In an effort to ensure that all Spanish American War, Philippine Insurrection, and China Relief Expedition Veterans were, and are, remembered Monuments were erected across the Country, in small towns and big Cities, on Courthouse Grounds, and State House Grounds. Over the years people have passed these monuments and taken little notice of them, paying attention instead to other larger and more impressive monuments nearby, in some sections of the country. Due in part to this some of these monuments have become neglected over time and forgotten. In an effort to ensure that these monuments are properly taken care of we are currently gathering a list of the locations, inscriptions, condition, etc.. from each of the monuments in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. If you are aware of the location of a monument please feel free to contribute this information to the Webmaster.
If you would like to send in information on an Individual Grave or Monument please feel free to use one of the following Registration Forms, which is included here as a PDF File.
