McINTOSH - I am looking for information on a T. J. McIntosh who was born in Sumter Co., SC, Lynchburg Township, in May 1880 (although he listed his birth as May 1879).  Raised a farmer, in 1907 he became the first Pentecostal missionary in China.  In 1909 he published a short book titled Around the World (Falcon, NC) that is now lost.  I have recently written an article on his life through his dimissal from the Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1913.  After that he nearly disappears from the historical record.

I recently found him in the 1930 census pastoring an independent "holiness mission" in Charleston, SC.  I also know that he was living in Westville, SC (Kershaw Co.) in 1949.  I am trying to locate a copy of his 1909 book and find out when he died (plus any new information about his life and ministry).

His wife was Annie E. (born c.1882).  He had a daugther named Hazel (married name Boone; born c. 1906) and a sone Thomas J. (born 8-15-1911 in Palestine; died 6-5-90).

If you have any leads on Rev. McIntosh or his book, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you. September 1, 2002

CAMPBELL - My great great grandfather, Christopher Columbus Campbell, was born in Sumter District in 1808. I have little information about him other than snippets such as the following. Christopher Columbus would only have been 13 years of age in 1821; therefore, it is unlikely the firm of C. C. Campbell & Co. was named for him. If not, for whom was it named . . .  his father?

In 1821 in a sale for partition of the property of Mrs. Singleton among her heirs, this property was bought by Dr. Jacques Bishop, who was one of the members of the firm and manager of C. C. Campbell & Company, who operated a large store here from that time until the Panic of 1837, when this firm was compelled to make an assignment. “Early History of Bishopville” The Camden Chronicle Camden, South Carolina Friday, July 12, 1940 Page 2. MELTON - Need information on the following family found in 1930 Lee County , SC census:

Charlie Norman Melton (C. N. Melton) age 47, born SC, both parents b. SC (born about 1883)
wife, Pauline Melton, age 46, SC (born about 1884)
son, Eddie, 19, SC (born about 1911
Lily Willis, adopted daughter??, 30, widowed, born NC (born about 1900)
Christine, 11, NC (about 1919)
L. C. (Lyn Charles Melton), 8, NC(1922)
William, 3 11/12, SC(1926)
Mildred, 1 4/12, SC (1928)

Mildred Melton married a Mr. Canada; she died in Florida.
Charlie Norman Melton died in Una, Spartanburg Co., SC, in 1952. (Have an obit on Charlie - great confusion here, says he married first Pauline, and second wife was Lillie Mae Willis.  Death certificate for Lyn Charles Melton says his parents were Arch McCullough and Lillie Mae Willis.
Death certificate for Mildred says HER parents were Charlie Norman Melton and Lillie Mae Willis.
I think that possibly Charlie adopted Lillie and her kids. Think that the obit was in error.

Any information on this family would be very helpful. December 29, 2002

HANCOCK -  My family is from the Bishopville, Lee County area. We can trace our roots to a William Hancock who first appears in the area in the 1800 Federal Census as "William Hancock Jr.". There is also a William Hancock Sr in 1800 whom we assume is his father. The only evidence as to "Jr." or Sr's origins appears in the Census of 1850 where Jr. (assumed since Sr. would be too old and probably died in about 1820-30) says he was born in North Carolina. Could this be a reference to Craven County, circa 1775 when this may have been part of the disputed NC/SC border?  We have lost the trail.

Is there anything in your records about a William Hancock in this area between 1750 and 1800? June 3, 2003

There is an association with C.C. Campbell and Co.; the first mercantile company in Bishopville. The company was established about 1821; therefore was probably not named after my gggrandfather. I suspect his father may have also been C. C. Campbell.

PARNELL
- I seeking information on William Parnell and the Parnell Cemetery that is located in Lee County at the intersection of Rivers Road and Moccasin Lane. The Parnell Cemetery is located at the edge of a field on Rivers Road, surrounded by a chain link fence. There is a wrought iron sign reading Parnell Cemetery.  There is only one maker inside the fence. The marker reads:

William Parnell
PVT
SC Militia
War of 1812
Mar 31, 1786
APR 16, 1860
In Memoriam

I'm interested in locating the family that maintains the cemetery or knows anything about when the marker was put up. June 27, 2008

Thanks,
Jerry Parnell
