My grandfather, David JOHNSTON, was born in the village of Blebocraigs,
in Fife. His father, David JOHNSTON, was killed in the Tay
Bridge Disaster on December 28, 1879. The widow of David JOHNSTON
married again, to Alexander JACK. I don't know if they continued
to live in Blebocraigs. I also don't know the maiden name of my great-grandmother.
Her first name was Helen. I would appreciate some information. Do
I need to know the name of the parish to search for birth and death certificates?
Since the David JOHNSTON who died in the crash died in Dundee,
is that where I look for a death certificate? I do know that my great-grandfather
had a brother named Andrew. I am very interested in obtaining information
about them and Blebocraigs. I would also like to find a source for
facsimile or microfilmed newspaper coverage of the Tay Bridge Disaster.
I know that the coverage was extensive. I am assuming that there probably
were little biographical sketches of the victims, and maybe stories about
victims and surviving families. Any help would be appreciated.

My interest is the MEEKS surname. According to one source, the name
originates in Cupar, Fife. My ancestors were said to be so called

any who went to Ireland, and then north american colonies? Any clues are

Searching for information regarding a deceased aunt Susan BROWN (Nee

They had two daughters that I know of, Jean,
whose married name I don't have, but resided in St. Andrews and had
one daughter that I know of named Susan who married a William
J. MORLAND and resides at Spottewood in St. Andrews. The
second daughter of Peter
and Susan BROWN was Mary BROWN who did not marry and resided
in St. Andrews. Both Jean and Mary are deceased. I
would appreciate any help that can be given to aid my search. I have access
to the LDS records but require a little more information than what I have
to help me trace the family. I live in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada
and am trying to develop my family history. My grandfather, William
Gardiner, lived in St. Ninians, Stirlingshire.

My g.g.grandfather was David ABERCROMBIE. He was born in Fife
and married Elizabeth MURRAY on 21 July 1823 at Montrose.
The family moved to Bradford, Yorkshire, probably about 1830. David
and Elizabeth are buried in Undercliffe Cemetery, Bradford,
along with their youngest son. The gravestone tells us that David was
born on 12 April 1801. However, the Parish Register records David's
name on his marriage as CROMBIE and I have been unable to find a
record of his birth. The following may simply be coincidence: one of David's
grandchildren was LASCELLES Abercrombie, who along with Rupert
Brooke was one of the Dimmock Poets; in 1729 in Dysart
a marriage took place between Henry ABERCROMBIE and Anna LESSELS.
Could there be a link?
