The Will of EDWARD EDWARDS

In the Name of God Amen, I Edward Edwards of Union District State of
South Carolina, do Make this my last Will and Testament. I commend my
Soul into the hands of God, hoping by and through the merit and
intercessions of our blessed Saviour and Redeemer Jesus Christ, I may be
made a partaker of his glorious Resurrection. I give and bequeath unto
my beloved Wife Mary Edwards, my Hous and Lot of Land with all the
buildings thereon Situate in Charleston on the corner of Meeting Street
and Smiths Lane, also my three Negroes Cuffy, Dinah, and Sary, also all
and Singular my Plate beds, bedding, Household and kitchen Furniture, of
what nature or kind soever, or wheresoever the same may be also one
Horse and a riding Chair and Harness, to hold the same to her, her
heirs, Executors, Administrators, and Assigns for ever. Item I give and
bequeath unto my beloved Daughter Mary Wakefield Edwards my two Negroes
Morris and Harriot (Children of Sary) to her her heirs , Executors,
Administrators and Assigns for ever, but should she not attain the age
of Eighteen years or not be Married before that period, that then I do
hereby give devise and bequeath the said two Negroes, Morris and Harriot
(Children of Sary) to my beloved Wife Mary Edwards to her, her heirs,
Executors, Administrators, and Assigns for ever. All my Debts to be
paid, and the remainder of my Estate to be kept together untill the
youngest Child attain the Age of Twenty one Years if a Son or if a
Daughter the age of Eighteen Years, or day of Marriage, and all my
Children to be educated, and all my Family to be maintained out of the

and if any Child, or Children, should be born after my Death, my Estate
to be kept together untill the said Child or Children be of the Age of
Twentyone Years if a Son or Sons, or if a Daughter or Daughters to the
Age of Eighteen years or Day of Marriage, then my Estate to be equally
divided amongst them, share, and share alike. And lastly, I do hereby
nominate, constitute and appoint my said Wife Mary Edwards, Executrix,
and my two Sons Daniel Cannon Edwards, and Edward Henry Edwards, when
they attain the Age of Twenty one Years, Executors of this my last Will
and Testament. In Witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and Seal
this Eighth day of January in the Year of our Lord one Thousand eight
hundred and Seventeen, and in the Forty first Year of American
Independance.

Signed, Sealed, published, pronounced and Declared by the said Edward
Edwards as and for his last Will and Testament, in presence of us, who
in his presence and at his request, and in presence of each other have
signed our Names as Witnesses thereto.

Union District Personally came before me Thomas Stribling Justice of
the Quorum, Capt. James Hunter and maketh Oath as the Law directs, that
he saw Edward Edwards sign the within testament for the purposes therein
contained and that John Davis, and John G. Rogers witnesses to the same,
and the sd Edward Edwards acknowledged the within to be his last will
and testament. Sworn and subscribed to this 22nd of Nov. 1821

Union District By William Rice Esq. Ordinary for said District
Personally came before me, Capt. James Hunter and on being duly sworn on
this Holy Evangelical of Almighty God, doth make oath and say that he
saw Edward Edwards sign seal, publish, pronounced and declare the
forgoing to be and contain his Last will and Testament, that he, the
said Edward Edwards was then of sound and disposing mind memory and
understanding to the best of this deponants Knowledge and belief, and
that he the said James Hunter with John Davis and John G. Rogers,
subscribed their Names as witnesses to the same at the Request of the
Testator in his presence, and in the presence of Each other.
