a Presbyterian Evangelist named Holmes. A descendant Ella
Tribble cousin of Dr. Bruce Ford of Spartinburg said the
boys moved to TN. She is dead a long time and her records

William Martindale, Jr. was a Patriot of the Revolution. He
was born in Bucks County, Pa but moved to Union County, SC
where he married Martha Bishop who was born about 1754, and
married ca 1770 in SC. I believe her parents to be Thomas
Bishop and Mary. Does anyone know of Martha? Do you know her

Family
We believe that our MASSEY family lived in Union County in
1780-1820's. We think William has a son named John( b.1782)
and he had sons named (b.1805-1825) John, Andrew, Jack,
Issac and Lot. We think because Lot name was Lot Porter and
there were a Lot PORTER, a Landlot PORTER, and a Sandlot
PORTER, there should be a connection somewhere but we can't
find it. Any information on either the connection or the

My Mayfields derive from Samuel Mayfield (1759-ca 1836) who
was born around Halifax Co., NC and migrated to SC before
the Rev. He was a RW pensioner. He had several children
(wife Jane) but the only one i know about was Archibald, who
migrated to Tuscaloosa/Bibb area of Alabama with Samuel in
the 1820's. Samuel was probably a son of Robert Mayfield, as
he is mentioned in Robert's estate papers as an equal sharer
in the estate. Any information on siblings, other relations?

Would appreciate information related to the family of JOHN
MAC (MACCLERKIN?) MAYFIELD. JOHN MAC was born 1821, SC
(raised as an orphan by another unknown family), farmer and
blacksmith, (parents born SC or VA), died 1912, buried New
Hope Methodist Church Cemetery, Chesney, Spartanburg Co.,
SC. JOHN MAC MAYFIELD's youngest son, JESSE FRANKLIN, told
family members that his father did not enter into service in
the CSA because of his expertise as a blacksmith. Instead,
he aided the cause as a civilian blacksmith. JOHN MAC
married 1844, SC, Leanna PARKER, b. 1824, SC, d. 1900,
buried New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery, Chesney,
Spartanburg Co., SC. They were listed on the 1880 Union Co.,
SC Census in Draytonville. Their oldest son, JOHN PRESTON,
b. 1845, d. 1883, m. P. Elizabeth NANCE, b. 1856, SC, d.
1903, is my ancestor. Any assistance is appreciated!!!!

Elizabeth MCCALL. Elizabeth was born ca 1764, the daughter
of James McCall of York Co., S.C. Robert SMITH purchased
land in Union County in 1793 from the heirs of Thomas
Armstrong, but he owned other land for he sold an unrelated
parcel of land in 1800 with wife Elizabeth relinquishing
dower rights. Did this couple migrate elsewhere? Did they

along with a William [possible wife Sarah] and also
a John McClain. Find a George McClain as member of Padgett

but no wills,deeds, etc., for MC CLAIN. Henry ADDINGTON,
wife Sarah died abt 1787 in Union County (left a will) and
named daughter Bethenia McClain wife of John. When/where did
John and Bethiena marry? Was John McClain a Quaker? Anyone

Hi, My ggg-great grandmother was Nancy MCELROY who married
William MEANS in 1795 in Spartanburg, SC. A DAR application
shows she was born in Union Co., SC in 1775 and died in 1809
in Manchester, Adams Co., OH. The only other information I
have on her ancestry is that she had three sisters. "Betsy"
(Elizabeth) MCELROY who married Levin TUCKER in Adams Co.,
OH in 1810 and died before 1835. Molly MCELROY who married
Thomas ART in Lincoln Co., KY in 1813 and died before 1869.
"Sally" (Sarah) MCELROY who married Charles MATHENY in Adams
Co., OH in 1813 and died in Manchester, Adams Co., OH. If

Migrations to Union Co.

I am noticing a lot of Union Co. names that I have also seen
in Fauquier Co. Va. and Washington Co. Va. with my WICKLIFF
family. You might check there for Hills, Beatty, Edwards,
Higdons, Bates, Cullum/Cullen, Pope, or Nichols among others
prior to 1790's. It seems that a lot of Fauquier Co. Va.
soldiers must have served in the Rev. in S.C. and moved
there after the Rev. War. My Wickliff family also moved to
Bath Co. Va.(1799), Wash. Co. Va. (early 1800's,), Grainger
Co. Tn. 1824, Shelby Co. In. 1832.However one branch went to
Union Co. S.C. and some other S.C. counties. The ones you
find in Fauquier Co. Va. probably have Westmoreland Co. Va.
and Charles Co. Md. ties earlier also.

Looking for information on my 2g-grandfather, JAMES NATHAN
GIST MURPHY b 23 Jul 1809, in Ireland or Union Cty, SC. and
died 21 Aug 1862 in Union Cty, SC. I am told that his father
was BYRD MURPHY and his mother was CHARLOTTE DUNDAN. He
married LAVINIA OLIVIA LEE 22 Aug 1839 and they had a
daughter MARTHA PAMEHILIA MURPHY my g-grandmother who
married BRIDGES, Thomas Henry. LAVINIA OLIVIA LEE was the
daughter of SARAH SMITH and THOMAS SMITH SR. Any information
