My Mayfields derive from Samuel Mayfield (1759-ca 1836) who was born around Halifax Co., NC and migrated to SC before the Rev. He was a RW pensioner. He had several children (wife Jane) but the only one i know about was Archibald, who migrated to Tuscaloosa/Bibb area of Alabama with Samuel in the 1820's. Samuel was probably a son of Robert Mayfield, as he is mentioned in Robert's estate papers as an equal sharer in the estate. You might check there for Hills, Beatty, Edwards, Higdons, Bates, Cullum/Cullen, Pope, or Nichols among others prior to 1790's. It seems that a lot of Fauquier Co. Va. soldiers must have served in the Rev. in S.C. and moved there after the Rev. War. My Wickliff family also moved to Bath Co. Va.(1799), Wash. Co. Va. (early 1800's,), Grainger Co. Tn. 1824, Shelby Co. In. 1832.However one branch went to Union Co. S.C. and some other S.C. counties. The ones you find in Fauquier Co. Va. probably have Westmoreland Co. Va. and Charles Co.
