ROBERTSON, JAMES
This information came from James ROBERTSON's Revolutionary
Pension Record (claim # 14341) Certificate No. 22423, issued
October 29, 1833, rate of $80.00 per year. He was 72, almost
73 years old when applied. "James ROBERTSON was born in
North Carolina, on the VA. line (1759). At a early age his
parents moved from there to South Carolina and settled in
what was then called Ninety-Six District, and since called
Union County on (looks like) Big C???t or k, at which place
he lived when he entered in the service of the United States
in the year 1776, as an enlisted soldier in the 6th Regiment
of provencials and commanded by Thomas ???." From this info
it looks like he moved to Ninety-Six, later called Union Co.
between 1759 and 1776, probably early 1760's. I can not find
any record that far back that would show James ROBERTSON and
/or his parents David ROBERTSON and Jane HOWES ROBERTSON
living there. The other children of David and Jane were
David (1757), Mathew (1762), Elijah (1764), Mary (1766),
Jane 1768 and maybe a Sarah (Sallie). After the war, James
moved to the Old Pendleton District, near Walhalla, in
present Oconee County. His home is still standing. His
father fought in the war and later moved into Ga. James
ROBERTSON,know as Horseshoe ROBERTSON was the subject of a
book by John Pendleton Kennedy, "Horse-Shoe Robinson" in
`1835. By that time Horseshoe had move to Tuscaloosa Co.,
Al. Any help in finding the early land records or other
records of his life in Union Co. would be greatly
appreciated.

ROSEBOROUGH /
RICE
I know that my father Lonnie Wilbert RICE was born (1933)
and raised in Union, SC....and his mother Mildred
ROSEBOROUGH lived there up until her death a few years
ago.... I believe his father J.D. RICE, was alive as of 5
years ago... although he was very old. Mildred's sister
Bernice A. THOMPSON was born in 1907 in Richburg, SC. In
looking at Bernice A. Thompson's obituary, I found her
parents.... Rev. James L. and Mrs. Lula J. Blake Rosborough.
It goes on to say that, "Her family moved to Union when she
was 13." Any information appreciated!
