DICKSON

Submitted by: Eugene C. Dickson
James Andrew Dickson - Orr's Regiment, Company F, Private, Oconee Co., Surrendered, lived in Oconee Co. in 1883 (born May 17, 1837, died May 21, 1906) He is buried at Retreat Presbyterian Church outside of Westminster, S. C.. He served in Orrs rifles and surrendered at Appomattox, Va. in 1865. I think he was with Orrs Rifles from their inception. He married Martha J. Dalton before the war but she died while he was away in the war. They had one child, I think his name was William Dickson. He married Mary Ann Dalton (sister of Martha) when he returned home from the war. They had several children together; Samuel Truman Dickson, (my grandfather), Walter Dickson, Jeff Dickson,George Newton Dickson, & Eddie Dickson Burns. There May have been more.

NOTE: I have some Davis ancestors that fought in the war but I couldn't determine if they were on the list.

ALSO Submitted info : Martha Dickson Hinrichs
My great grandfather is on your list. He is shown as: Jas. A. Dickson, f. Priv. Oconee S; liv in Oconee. His name was James Andrew Dickson. My research shows he died in Westminster, Oconee, SC 21May1906.

He was married twice. First to Martha J. Dalton, then to her sister Mary Ann Dalton. His children were: William E. Dickson, Edwinnie Dickson, Charley or Carl L. Dickson, Samuel Truman Dickson, Terry W. aka T. Walter Dickson, Jefferson S. Dickson , and George Newton Dickson (my grandfather). All these children were born in SC and, I think, in Oconee County.
