The back says, "To Mrs. D. McPherson. Duncan II - 20 years old. Newport, Rhode Island, summer of year 1900. Electric automobile, one of 80 at Newport plant of New England Electric Vehicle Co. of Boston, rented by the month, as from an Auto LIVERY, delivered in morning and returned at night. Good for 25 miles, on one charging. Duncan McPherson, Night Controller."

Washington Square looking at the Brick Market at the end of the sidewalk on the right. The house visible on the left is still there. Taken some time in the 1860's. The photographer, J. A. Williams, had his studio on Touro Street.	Washington Square looking towards the Old Colony House in 1898. This is the opposite direction and same street as the one on the left. At the far right in the street you can see half of the horse fountain.



Washington Square, probably in the late 1800's. This appears to be a funeral with at least one hearse. The horse fountain is in the center right, and the statue of Oliver Hazard Perry is in the park. On Touro Street at the right can be seen the pillared St. Joseph's Church, now a theater. For an even larger [387 kb] image, click here.


The Newport Street R'Y Co. Trolley 33 at the intersection of Bedlow Avenue and Broadway after the blizzard of 1898. Right: two employees of the company from the same time period wearing numbers 500 & 530 on their hats.
