The board members of the York County Genealogical and Historical Society are pleased to announce that The Quarterly a publication of the Society, has proven to be an unqualified success and in June 1999 began our eleventh year. We are proud that the S. C. Confederation of State and Local History Societies awarded us their 1994 Outstanding Publication Award. The magazine-sized quarterly is 40 pages with a vellum protective cover. It contains articles by local historians, research tips, pages from family Bibles, eyewitness accounts, military records, old cemetery lists, reports of local preservation efforts, book reviews, etc. There is a large query section and we make every attempt to match researchers who are interested in the same families and topics. Each issue is indexed. Mike Scoggins is the editor. Our fiscal year runs from June 1 to May 31. A subscriber receives all issues of the fiscal year in which he subscribes. Contributions to the Society over and beyond the normal membership/subscription prices will be gratefully accepted.
Editorial Policy: Readers are encouraged to share materials they have developed. We will print family histories and charts, old family Bible records, letters and other documents of general interest. Lengthy submissions may be published serially over several issues. We will not publish copyrighted materals unless a letter is attached indicating that the owner/author has given permission for reprinting. Queries are free but we exercise the right to reduce the length and otherwise edit them. Please do not send originals or any materals you wish returned. We will make every attempt to provide accurate information and invite readers to inform us of any errors that need correction. We now have the capability to reproduce black-and-white photographs, maps, and other such illustrations in The Quarterly, but not color illustrations. We prefer that readers submit all materials electronically in one of the following formats: MS Word, Corel Word Perfect, rich text, or plain text. Photographs and other illustrations should be scanned at 300 dpi with descreening for printed materials like newspaper articles and newsprint photos. Material may be submitted to the editor via e-mail, floppy disc, or CD-ROM. If you have any questions about submitting materials for publication please contact the editor.
