HAWXHURST or HAUXHURST. James and Ellen E "Jones" Hawxhurst lived in Brookings Co, SD and had children Minnie Adele, b. 2-7-1877 and Ella b. 4-18-1880. Also in same county were Elisha and Elsie Idella "Thompson" Hawxhurst who had son Clarence Oscar b. 3-18-1880. Need any and all info on these and any other Hawxhurst families in South Dakota.
Seeking information on the death of Nellie SEATON, resident of Brookings, SD c.1900-1909. Listed in the Oren Seaton Book in 1903, "Nellie is a bookkeeper and cashier in C. A. Skinner's dry goods store in Brookings, SD." There is no record of her after that. She is the daughter of James A. Seaton and Mary E. BRADLEY, residents of Brookings at about the same time, and the sister of Fannie E. Seaton married to Hubert H. REEVES, both also residents 1900 to 1909. (They subsequently moved to Santa Ana, CA) If she died in Brookings she would also be buried in a local cemetery. (?) Does anyone have information on Nellie, her family, or even Skinner's Dry Goods Store?
My family is from and settled in Brookings, South Dakota. Russell M CRAWFORD married to Lois NEWTON gave birth to Anson, Homer, Jessie, George, and Oka. Jessie CRAWFORD married Robert S. CARTER and they had 5 children. One was my grandfather. I am looking for any information on the CRAWFORDs and CARTERs.
Seeking information about Earl JOHNSTONE and Lena JOHNSON. Marriage date of Earl and Lena (possibly Olga Elina) was June 12, 1910. Daughter Ruth was born in Brookings, SD in 1912. Lena born in 1889 was originally from Calumet, Michigan area and of Finnish descent. Earl was born in Wisconsin approximately 1888-1889. His occupation may have been miner, ranch hand or machinist. Would appreciate any information but would especially like to find a marriage record to search Earl's ancestry and some history of employment around 1910-12 time period to figure out what they were doing in Brookings. They later moved to Madison and Silver Bow Counties in Montana.
I believe that both my Grandfather (James Donavon LANE) and (Father James William LANE) were born in the Brookings County area. I believe that grandpa was 1/2 Indian, and dad of course would be 1/4 Indian. I found a reference to my grandpa's mother's name as being TOOKSBER. I don't know if that is supposed to be an Indian name, or part of some other name. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I am seeking information on Larry BURNS and his wife Elizabeth who moved to the Dakota Terr. in 1880 with their five children. The eldest of those children, Jane BURNS had married Patrick CRIMMINS in Fox Lake, Wi. in 1878. I find them both on the county list, evidently purchasing or homesteading the same property. Lawrence had died by the fall of 1883 and Jane and Patrick had moved on, but where? Elizabeth received the patent to the property in 1887.
Looking for information on William GILES. According to the 1900 Kingsbury Census, he was born Nov. 1892 in South Dakota to John H. Giles (the son of Nathan R. Giles and Dorcas B. NICHOLS) and Nellie(Nettie?). Using that information I found a possible birth and death date from the Social Security Death Index -- Nov. 8, 1892 to Mar. 1979. Last residence known was Brookings, Brookings Co., SD with the death payment sent to Estelline, SD. Does anyone know any information about William or his family? Nathan and Dorcas had at least 8 children and would be interested in any information on those children and their descendents also. John H. and Nellie had at least three children, Roger (July 1891), William and Raymond (May 1897).
I would like information concerning my grandfather's family. I know them as STAVEN but have recently discovered information that they also used the name EVERSON. My g-grandparents moved to the Brookings area from Coon Valley, Wisconsin in 1878. I think they may have been associated with the Medbury area. They seem to have had involvement with the Brookings (First?) Lutheran Church, my g-grandfather Ole being listed as a charter member. One of the girls(Julia) married a DYBDAHL, another(Sophia) a BOYER, and Christine was first married to a HOVDEN and then an EIKUM. She had a daughter whose married name was GREEN. There was another daughter named Lena. The boys in the family were John, Peter, Martin, Louis, Melvin (my grandfather), and Emil.
Am looking for Thomas GULBRANSON who I found living in Brookings county on the 1880 census. He was living with wife Ingebor and son Eric. He may be my lost Grand Uncle so I would appreciate any info.
