William RICE 1828 IRE-1891 Brookings SD married 1855 Canada, Hannah BURSELL 1836 Canada-1914 Dempster SD; had in Fillmore county MN; Mary Jane, Susan, Catherine, Anna, Eliza, Ella, Hannah, Margaret, William, and Emma. Mary Jane married James RUSSELL, and bought the farm in Fillmore county MN; Will & Hannah and the rest of the children moved to Brookings SD, the spring of 1880, just after the railroad went through. Susan married a CHAMBERS; Catherine, Anna, Eliza, and Ella married sons of Daniel BUNDAY, of Bruce SD; Hannah married Arnold KRINGSRUD; Margaret and Emma married WHITTEMORE brothers, and William married Anna WEST. I would like to hear from their descendants. Jim and Mary Jane RUSSELL were my grandparents.

Kenneth WARD married est 1931 Edith BRUENING of Elkton, Brookings Co, SD She was related to other BRUENINGS of Elkton. Were Albert, Arthur, Harold or Mathilda BRUENING of Elkton, related? By Dec 1949 Kenneth and Edith B. WARD were living in Minneapolis, Hennepin Co, MN. They never had any children, were divorced and that Edith BRUNING - WARD remarried but Kenneth WARD didn't. At some time, Kenneth's feet were frozen and became gangrenous. Does anyone know when or where he died and was buried? The Soc Security Death Index has a Kenneth WARD born 13 Mar 1911 who resided at Cambridge, Isanti, MN 55008 who died Mar 1981.

Orin WARD married 25 Oct 1890 in Springfield, MO Elizabeth -Lizzie FIELDS & along with Orin's parents, they moved to Brookings, SD in 1900. Their children were: George WARD b 1891 MO; William Walter Ward b 1893 in Missouri married Minnie Coleman and lived in Ft Meade, SD; James Earl WARD b 1897 m Beulah SANDERS and lived Brookings, SD; Nellie WARD b 1901 in SD d 1903; Theodore (Theo) WARD b 1904 in Brookings, SD lived in Custer, SD and I am told he married; Orville WARD b 12 Jan 1907 died -a homicide victim 8 Sep 1941 in Brookings, SD, he married Gladys NELSON with whom he had 6 children; Harry WARD b abt 1909 was living in Sioux Falls, SD in 1949 and is believed to have married; Kenneth WARD b abt 1911 in Brookings, SD married Edith BRUENING and they were living in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1949. Sometime after that they divorced & Edith remarried. I think Kenneth may have died in March 1981 in Minn.

OH,WIS,OH (mother of 6 children, 4 living -married 18 years); son Walter 16 b. MO,WIS,OH; Earl 13 b. MO,WIS,OH; Theo 6 b. SD,WIS,OH; Orville 3 b. SD,WIS,OH. Mahlon WARD died sometime within the next ten years. When the 1920 census was taken in White, Brookings Co, SD, his widow, Fannie WARD was age 75 b OH enumerated with her oldest son Zophar WARD, a divorced carpenter, his children all born in SD; Pearl age 20 & Margaret age 19 -sales ladies at dry good's store; James 17 a laborer & Lucy 13 a student.
I just learned that William Walter WARD was b 6 May 1893 in Eau Claire, WIS and died 17 Oct 1960 and was buried near Sturgis, SD at Black Hills National Cemetery on October 21, 1960. So he was 67yrs 5 mo 11 days old when he died. The Kincaid Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, SD handled the funeral. He had been a Sergeant in the US Army in W W 1. He and his dau., Verna L. WARD, his wife, Minnie COLEMAN -WARD, & her parents were living together in Brookings, Brookings Co, SD in 1920. A niece says he was known as Walter WARD and before he died he was in a "home" of some type. Does anyone know of a Veteran's Home or other type of institution in SD or in a nearby state?
Theodore (aka Theo) WARD was b 1 Sep 1903 in Brookings, Brookings Co, SD & died Nov 1983 in Missoula, Missoula, Montana. He married abt 1924 Lillian (maiden name unknown) and they moved from Brookings, SD to the Black Hills and later to Missoula, Montana. They were living in Custer, SD when Theo's father died in Dec 1949. Theodore and Lillian WARD had some sons and daughters: their son, Teddy (Theodore?) WARD b est 1925 died est 1935 as a teenager; a daughter, Elizabeth "Bessie" WARD married Edwin AARSTAD (1916-1991?) and lived in Missoula, Montana. Bessie WARD -AARSTAD's mother, Lillian WARD was b 11 Dec 1905 (SD?) and d Aug 1987 in Missoula, Missoula, MT.
