Peter NYLANDER and his wife Caroline came to Brookings County in 1880 from Sweden. They took up a homestead In Preston Twp. and raised three children there. The children were Mary, John E. and Alice. Peter and Carolina lived there for 42 years before moving to Kingsburg, CA. Peter helped organize the Swedish Mission Covenant Church of the community in 1889. There were other siblings who immigrated, but I don't know where they settled. If anyone is researching this family I would like to hear from you.
I am looking for anyone who might have some info on Anna M HEWLETT-FISH-HORNE. She was married to my Great Grandfather-Charles H. Fish, and later to James Horne. I would like to know where she is buried in SD, if she is, and when she died.
I am interested in any information available on the FROIEN surname in Brookings County, SD. Approximate time frame is 1890 through 1940. May have relatives in Miner County and/or Hughes County. I know she (Anna Froien) was in Hughes County in 1917 & 1918, then left for either Brookings County or maybe Miner County.
I would like to communicate with anyone who can give me information about John C. ALLISON who migrated from Wisconsin to Brookings County in the 1870s or 1880s and live there until 1914. I would like to know where his descendants live now. Are there any Allisons still living in South Dakota? The White South Dakota History Book published in 1984 had this information on the J.C. Allison that lived there. It states that John C. Allison and his brother-in-law, William A. BURGESS, started the first hardware store there. I have information that John Allison of White was a senator in 1893 & 1895.
I am looking for descendants of Berthel THOMSEN(19 Jul 1863- around 1910-1920). He was born in Hvorvarp, Ulstrup Sogn, Aalborg, Denmark and immmigrated to the United States in 1889 (Dell Rapids, SD). He settled in the White, South Dakota area and had 5 children according to the 1900 and 1910 census. His wife's name was Karen and his children were:
Lewis Christian THOMSEN (30 Jul 1893-Sep1963) married Nettie(1896-1987) and according to the 1930 census had two children: Janette E. Thomsen 11 years old, Lasanda R. Thomsen 5 years.
Anna Margaret THOMSEN (26 Jun 1895-Apr 1986) married Clarence SHERWOOD (19 Jun 1892-Jul 1978) and in the 1930 census had four children: Ardath F. Sherwood 14 years old, Berton N. Sherwood, 13 years old (6 Apr 1917-19 Dec 1999 died in Oregon), Kenneth L. Sherwood 11 years old (2 Nov 1918-11 Mar 1994 died in Oregon), Irene C. Sherwood 8 years old.

I would love to hear from anyone with information about these relatives or their children.
I'm looking for any information on the Peter and Hanora (GRADY) KINNEY, Thomas and Bridgit (SHAY) TOWEY, and James and Bridgit (GRADY) GRADY families. They were all early homesteaders that arrived in SD in the late 1870's.
I am tracing the ancestors of Lars OTTERNESS, b. 1884 in Brookings, married to Alma ? He appears on the 1920 census in Brookings with Alma and four children. I would very much like to learn the maiden surname of Alma, who like Lars was of Norwegian descent. Also I know that Lars' father was named Ole Otterness, but Lars stated at the time of the census that his father was born in Wisconsin. The Ole J Otterness who owned property in Brookings was born in South Dakota. I did find an Ole Otterness born in Wisconsin, who died in Minnesota, but I have no evidence that he was in SD at any time, though I guess it is not impossible, as I believe others went to SD and then back to Minnesota. Would anyone be so kind as to look up Ole and/or Lars Otterness in Brookings In Dakota state census between 1880-1920 if these are indexed? Would the marriage of Lars Otterness and Alma (ca 1905-1910) be registered? In return I can do lookups in Norway for Norwegian ancestors, electronic anyway, possibly microfilms of originals depending on where they came from.
My grandmother, Eliza Leota HAWXHURST (or HAUXHURST) was born in Brookings about 1885. Looking for information on who her parents and/or siblings were. She married Raymond Judd WINEGAR in Salt Lake City in 1907 (have that certificate - that's how I found her birthplace). I welcome any information.
Looking for a first name and any other info on gt grandparents and gt gt grandparenst - IVERSON. My gt gt grandmother was "Mrs. Hans Iverson" - looking for her first name and maiden name. She died at age 97 at 712 Second Street in Brookings. Her husband, Hans Iverson, died in 1917. He came to Brookings in 1882, and she joined him in 1884. One of their children (my gt grandfather), Iver Iverson, was born March 10, 1852, in Gulbransdalen, Norway, and came to LaCrosse, WI, in 1872, and then to Brookings in 1879. Apparently his father and then his mother joined him there. Iver Iverson was employed at Sexauers for 32 years and died in 1930 at age 78. Regarding Mrs. Hans Iverson, she must have died between 1917 (after her husband) and before 1930 (before her son) since Iver is listed as one of the survivors in the obituary I have (which has no dates in it - only says she died Friday, funeral is Tuesday). It does say the funeral was at First Lutheran with Rev. A. E. Hanson officiating and interment in Lutheran cemetery. I'd be grateful for any additional information!
Looking for any info on Philetus Clark TRUMAN he married Mary DICKERSON and they lived in Volga Brooking from 1890 and died in Volga in the early 1900. Thank you for any help you can find on the family.
