CORRY, MOORE, SMITH posted by Christy Van on Wednesday, August 11, 1999

Please check to see what information you might have regarding Chester E. CORRY, banker in Columbia, SD from 1883 - 1906 approx. I found a biography on him last night from the Memorial and Biographical record.....of prominent settlers and citizens of South Dakota. He was mayor in 1893. Apparently his first wife, Clara SMITH, died before 1900 - because he was a widower in the 1900 census. He married a second time to Stella SMITH MOORE, an accomplished pianist, sometime after 1900 and before 1907.The bank he established was called: Loomis and Corry Bank, which later changed its name to the People's Bank.

It appears that "Olivie" (HOLGERSDATTER) SKIBSRUD died in October 1972 and her last residence is listed as Aberdeen, Brown Co., SD. Her siblings in the U.S. were; Axel HOLGERSEN 1887-1960 Minnehaha, SD - Kristofie "Sophie" HOLGERSEN 1892-1991, married Lars HORPEDAHL in Day Co., SD in 1918 - and Alvin Gustav HOLGERSEN 1900-1986 [d. in NM, buried in MN] Other's with the surname of SKIBSRUD with connections to Aberdeen, Brown Co., SD are: Harold SKIBSRUD, 1920-1991, Howard SKIBSRUD, 1926-1992, Bert SKIBSRUD, 1928-1996. Were these possibly children of Alfred and Olava SKIBSRUD? One of their son's may have been a minister or "preacher" in the Aberdeen area.
